Hideki Kamiya Once Again Expresses Desire to Resurrect Scalebound With Xbox
Ever since its cancellation in 2017, whispers about a potential comeback for the action game “Scalebound” have surfaced on and off. Recently, the original director, Hideki Kamiya, has expressed interest yet again in revisiting this dragon-themed title that met an unfortunate fate.
A video shared on Twitter/X by Clovers studio, who are presently developing the highly anticipated sequel to Okami, displays the team huddled around Kamiya’s computer, observing YouTube clips of Scalebound, initially introduced as an exclusive Xbox game in 2014.
In the past, PlatinumGames was developing Scalebound, but Hideki Kamiya left the studio in 2023. If he were to make a new agreement with Microsoft to bring Scalebound to Xbox, it seems unlikely that Platinum would still be working on the project. Kamiya comments enthusiastically, “It looks fantastic even now!” while watching videos of the game being played.
He additionally shared the excerpt, commenting, “Here we go, Phil! :D”, clearly addressing Xbox’s CEO Phil Spencer. However, it remains uncertain whether the CEO of Xbox Gaming will take an interest in reviving the cancelled title Scalebound. Given his stance on the game, it appears unlikely.
In response to a question in 2020, Spencer expressed admiration for Platinum and Kamiya-san, as well as their team. He clarified that he holds no grudges, and they maintain open communication. However, an attempt between the teams did not succeed as planned.
We’re definitely open to the idea of bringing back Scalebound. Back when we checked it out at Gamescom 2016, it seemed very intriguing, especially with those dragon elements. Who wouldn’t be excited about that?
Let’s do it, Phil ! 😀
