Heston Blumenthal has revealed he’s taking the weight-loss drug Wegovy.

Heston additionally voiced concerns that the increasing trend of using weight-loss injections might endanger the food sector.

In an interview with Times Radio, Heston shared: “I’ve gained quite a bit of weight, but I’m losing it now,” and further noted that his drug usage presents a “curious contradiction” as a chef and restaurant owner.

The television host shared that he had shed around 18 pounds using Wegovy, but he’s experienced some side effects such as mental confusion, speech issues, and balance problems.

The medication includes semaglutide, a type of amino acid, that works by imitating a hormone and signaling to your brain that you’re already full, thereby reducing your appetite.

Heston cautioned the food industry about the potential harmful effects that persistent usage of popular weight-loss injections might bring upon it.

Heston predicted a significant worsening of conditions for restaurants over the next six months, and he also warned that supermarkets would face similar challenges ahead.

Previously, a month ago, Heston confessed that he had contemplated various methods to end his life. However, later on, he sought and received treatment for bipolar disorder.

In November 2023, the renowned chef from London, who boasts a combined total of seven Michelin stars across his restaurants, was diagnosed with type 1 bipolar disorder. This diagnosis came after he was placed under legal care, a decision made at the request of his wife, Melanie Ceysson, a successful French entrepreneur.

Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition that leads to significant shifts in mood and energy, often occurring rapidly.

Over the past month, I’ve been immersed deeply in a healing journey, confined within the walls of a psychiatric hospital for two intense weeks. Post that, I found myself engrossed in another sanctuary – a clinic – where I spent another six weeks dedicatedly undergoing rigorous treatment. Among all this, I also took time out to practice walking meditation, finding solace and strength in each step I took.

Four years ago, he had reached his lowest point, considering the means to end his life.

Reflecting on filming Crazy Delicious in 2019, Heston shared with The Times that he recalled lying on the couch the evening before he was scheduled for the show. He expressed reluctance to participate because of his health at the time, and had contemplated various methods for ending his life.

Reflecting on the suggested items, here’s what crossed my mind but didn’t seem feasible: a knife – not an option for me, no guns in my possession, and a rope? Frankly, I’m unsure of how to handle that effectively; it might slip or cause unintended consequences.
