Through TIFF, Son’s production delves into the themes of artistic ambitions and mortality in a unique and engaging dramatic presentation.

Andrew Dyer (Nighy) hasn’t written anything or left home for the past 20 years. In those two decades, he had a child outside of marriage, lost his wife who was nominated for an Oscar (Imelda Staunton), and has been mostly out of touch with his other sons.

After the passing of an old companion, Andrew finds himself grappling with the stark reality of his own life span. His struggle with alcohol addiction intensifies this realization. As a result, he makes a decision to reunite all his kin for what might be their final gathering.

The older siblings, Richard (Johnny Flynn) and Jamie (George MacKay), feel reluctant but come back home, still harboring past disagreements. They think their father wants to make peace by atoning for old mistakes. However, instead of offering apologies, he shares an unexpected truth about their half-brother Andy Jr. (Noah Jupe) that dramatically alters the course of their family’s history.

Ahead of the film’s release, Trapero revealed what drew him to the project.
