As a die-hard movie enthusiast with a soft spot for biopics and Angelina Jolie, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment upon learning that the highly anticipated film “Maria” is currently only available to stream in the US. Having missed out on numerous cinematic gems due to regional restrictions, I find myself once again on the sidelines, eagerly awaiting its arrival on my side of the pond.
It is possible that Angelina Jolie may receive an Oscar nomination again for her starring role in director Pablo Larraín’s latest film titled Maria.
It’s possible you’ve noticed Netflix promoting that “Maria” is now streaming, and perhaps you were planning to spend your weekend enjoying it. However, if you’re residing in the United Kingdom or Ireland, you’ll find yourself let down as it isn’t available for viewing there.
In the United States, Netflix obtained the broadcasting rights for the film “Maria” following a brief cinema release. As of December 11, this biopic is accessible for streaming on Netflix, so if you reside within the US, you can enjoy it at your convenience.
For residents of the UK and Ireland, there is a bit of a delay as the film “Maria” will first hit cinema screens on January 10, 2025, via StudioCanal.

In Germany and Poland, the movie’s distribution is being managed by StudioCanal as well. The German release is scheduled for February 6, 2025, while the Polish launch date has yet to be announced.
Currently, the movie “Maria” is only available for viewing in the United States. If you reside outside of the U.S., it would not be advisable to add this film to your watchlist at this time because it is unlikely to be accessible in your region.
It’s been confirmed that Maria will be making her appearance on Netflix in the UK and Ireland at some point, as a result of a pre-existing agreement between StudioCanal and Netflix.

Generally speaking, films like “Back to Black” and “Wicked Little Letters,” distributed by StudioCanal, tend to become available on streaming platforms approximately five months following their initial theater release.
That points to Maria landing on Netflix in the UK and Ireland in early June 2025.
There are instances, like “The Beekeeper” and “Lee,” where this rule doesn’t apply. This is because these titles were original productions of Sky, with StudioCanal responsible for their theatrical release.
Maria is released in UK and Irish cinemas on January 10, 2025.
