Here’s how much Robert Downey Jr. is getting paid to return as Doctor Doom in the MCU
As a long-time Marvel fan who’s witnessed the MCU’s evolution since its humble beginnings, I must admit that the news of Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the franchise has sent shockwaves through my very core! The man who breathed life into Tony Stark and Iron Man for over a decade is stepping into the villainous shoes of Doctor Doom? Mind. Blown.
At San Diego Comic-Con, Disney and Marvel astounded everyone with the news that Robert Downey Jr. would be rejoining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Although fans were hoping for the return of their favorite character, Tony Stark/Iron Man, played by Downey Jr., this won’t be happening. Instead, a shocking revelation emerged that Downey Jr. will take on a new role – the main villain, Doctor Doom, in the upcoming Avengers film.
As a die-hard fan, I couldn’t help but ponder over the enigma surrounding the actor’s comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Questions swirled in my mind: Is this a clever red herring, or is he truly Victor von Doom? Or perhaps, could this be a variant of Tony Stark from an alternate universe?
Until there’s some leakage from production, it seems these types of questions won’t get answered right away. However, a recent Variety report sheds light on the substantial amount the actor is earning for rejoining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Based on industry sources, directors Anthony and Joe Russo are reportedly earning a combined $80 million to direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Compared to this, Robert Downey Jr.’s potential earnings are expected to be substantially higher. Although the exact amount hasn’t been disclosed, The Insider claims that Downey Jr. will receive approximately $50 million per film, with box office bonuses that could potentially double this figure upon completion of the projects.
According to Variety, Downey’s agreement comes with extra benefits like a personal private jet, personalized security services, and an entire ‘trailer village’.
As a gamer putting on my cape for this one, I’ve got to say that Downey Jr.’s payday sure is impressive! But let me tell you, it’s tough to dispute he deserves it. For over a decade, this Academy Award-winning actor has been the bedrock of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Infinity Saga, leading the Avengers like a seasoned veteran. He’s been the face of the MCU for so long, it feels like he was born with the shield!
As a longtime fan of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I’ve been following the franchise since its inception and have watched every single movie, including Iron Man with Robert Downey Jr. He played a pivotal role in establishing the MCU as we know it today. However, after the unfortunate death of Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame, the box office numbers have dipped significantly. I believe this trend is more indicative of general superhero fatigue rather than a decline in audience interest in Downey Jr.’s characters.
