Approximately twenty years later, Anna Wintour has shared her thoughts on the 2006 film “The Devil Wears Prada,” starring Anne Hathaway and famously based on Wintour’s well-known management style at Vogue magazine.
And although Wintour is more than fashionably late, she’s showing up in time for the sequel.
Recently on the New Yorker Radio Hour, Wintour commented that the film was “full of humor and cleverness, it featured Meryl Streep,” adding that the entire cast was outstanding and in her opinion, it presented a well-balanced portrayal.
The renowned editor who recently left her position at Vogue admitted that she attended the initial movie premiere dressed in Prada, yet was unfamiliar with the film’s content. Wintour shared that individuals within the fashion world had voiced concerns about the Miranda Priestly character, fearing she might be portrayed as a caricature of herself. However, these apprehensions proved to be unfounded.
The well-known editor who ended her stint at Vogue this summer confessed that she went to the premiere of the first film wearing Prada without knowing what the movie was about. Wintour revealed that some people in the fashion industry had expressed worries that the Miranda Priestly character might be modeled after her. However, these concerns were baseless.
“First of all, it was Meryl Streep, [who is] fantastic.”
The movie ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is adapted from the 2003 best-selling novel of the same title written by Lauren Weisberger, who had previously worked as an assistant to Anna Wintour. The story revolves around a character portrayed by Hathaway, who lands a job at a prestigious fashion magazine, under the management of a tough boss, played by Streep.
The lead actor, known for portraying a firm and decisive head editor, received a nomination for an Academy Award due to her exceptional acting performance.
In June, it was revealed that Wintour would be relinquishing her position as editor-in-chief of the magazine, a role she’s held for 37 years. However, she will still maintain control over Condé Nast, the multinational media firm responsible for publishing not only Vogue but also other renowned titles such as The New Yorker, GQ, Vanity Fair, and Wired.
The sequel to ‘The Devil Wears Prada,’ titled simply as ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2,’ is currently being made for a release in May 2026. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all set to reprise their roles from the original film, but Adrian Grenier, who portrayed Hathaway’s boyfriend in the first movie, will not be returning. The new cast members joining the team include Kenneth Branagh, Justin Theroux, and Lucy Liu.
