Here comes a new dragonrider in images from the next episode of House of the Dragon
As a long-time fan of the Targaryen dynasty, I’ve watched with bated breath as the power struggle between Aemond and Aegon unfolds in King’s Landing. Aemond, the confident one, still sits on the Iron Throne while his brother convalesces, but rumors of a power struggle brewing behind the scenes have me on edge. I’ve seen enough political intrigue in my days to know that appearances can be deceiving.
In the final two episodes of “House of the Dragon” Season 2, what will transpire for Rhaenyra, Alicent, Daemon, and the rest of our characters? HBO has shared a collection of fresh photos to pique our curiosity. Let’s examine them closely.
Let’s begin with a scene: Queen Rhaenyra, accompanied by her dragon Syrax, is seated on Driftmark’s beach. Before her stands Addam of Hull, unexpectedly astride Seasmoke, the dragon previously ridden by Laenor Velaryon, Rhaenyra’s late spouse.
Towards the close of the last episode titled “Smallfolk,” Rhaenyra hurriedly left in search of discovering who had ridden Seasmoke. Previously speculated to be Addam, a commoner from Driftmark, this theory is validated by the trailer’s revelation.
Rhaenyra isn’t thrilled with this new turn of events, finding it intriguing yet troubling. Her desire was to discover more dragonriders, and now one has unexpectedly appeared in her midst. However, the fact that this rider, Addam, is of common birth poses a significant issue for Rhaenyra. “What are we if not the true blood of House Targaryen?” her son Jace queries in the trailer. With the need to bolster her forces against half-brother Aegon’s claim on the Iron Throne, Rhaenyra may have to overcome this obstacle and accept Addam’s allegiance.
Addam actually does have noble blood, since he and his brother Alyn are the illegitimate children of Corlys Velaryon. That storyline has been stewing all season, and it looks like the characters are finally going to talk about it in the new episode. Here’s Corlys and Alyn (recently promoted to being Corlys’ first mate, hence the fancy new clothes), having what I hope is a long-overdue conversation:
In other parts of Team Rhaenyra, Baela Targaryen will make an appearance again, having been absent from the previous episode.
In the previous episode, there was a scene where Rhaenyra and her spymaster Mysaria exchanged a kiss. So, the question is, what’s their current relationship status? Keep reading to find out.
Team Green
At the same time, Aemond Targaryen continues to reign in King’s Landing, with his brother Aegon currently recovering. His demeanor remains unshaken and self-assured.
Simultaneously, it has come to light that Aemond’s secretive advisor, Larys Strong, is collaborating with the ailing King Aegon against Aemond’s will. There’s currently a power tussle between the brothers. Aemond isn’t willing to relinquish the regency, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he tried to eliminate his brother. However, with Larys Strong on Aegon’s side, there’s a possibility that Aegon could succeed:
At the same time, Alicent Hightower, who is the mother of Aegon and Aemond, is seen taking a break in this image. The location is a forest, but it remains unclear how she arrived there.
It appears that Alicent has been removed from the Small Council, but with all that’s happening in Westeros now, perhaps it would be wiser for her to stay put for a while. Let’s hold off on any wandering adventures for now.
Daemon at Harrnehal
After four episodes of witnessing Daemon Targaryen’s failed attempts to win over Riverlords at Harrenhal, we have numerous scenes of him. Frankly, I must admit that watching him brood and experience recurring nightmares has become rather monotonous for me. Here’s hoping that significant events unfold for him as soon as he exits the frame.
It seems my wishes will come true as we see Daemon Targaryen conversing with young Oscar Tully, who has recently assumed the role of Lord Paramount of the Riverlands following the demise of his grandfather, Grover Tully, last week.
If Daemon successfully persuades Lord Oscar to mobilize the Riverlords, he could potentially acquire the military force he has been seeking.
As an avid fan and gamer, I’m thrilled to share that the next unnamed installment of “House of the Dragon” is set to drop this coming Sunday, July 28 at 8:00 p.m. Central Standard Time on both HBO and Max. Can’t wait to see what unfolds in Westeros!
