Henry Cavill’s departure from his role as the lead in Netflix’s The Witcher received a lot of public attention, mainly because of creative differences regarding how the show adapted the original story. The Witcher began as a series of books by Andrzej Sapkowski and has since been reimagined in various formats, including a popular video game series. However, the Netflix series arguably brought the fantasy world to its greatest level of mainstream success. When the show debuted in 2019, Cavill’s portrayal of Geralt of Rivia was highly acclaimed, and fans were particularly thrilled by his well-known passion for the books and games.
As a huge fan, it was really exciting when the Netflix series first came out, but honestly, it started to drift away from the books and stories I loved. A lot of us fans, and even Henry Cavill himself, noticed and weren’t happy with the changes. It got to the point where Cavill decided to leave as Geralt, which was a real blow, and now Liam Hemsworth is taking over for season four. It’s a shame to see a show with so much promise struggling towards its final season this year. But I’m really relieved to hear that Henry is getting another chance to bring a different story to life – one where he can stay true to the source material. I’m really hoping that project will be amazing!
Amazon’s ‘Warhammer 40,000‘ Show Has Already Learned From Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ Mistakes

Netflix
While best known for its tabletop role-playing games, Warhammer has expanded into comics, video games, and more. Henry Cavill is a well-known fan of both The Witcher and Warhammer 40,000, and has openly shared his enthusiasm for the latter. Though he’s finished with The Witcher, Cavill is now set to star in and help develop a live-action Warhammer series for Prime Video, going beyond simply acting in the adaptation.
I’m really excited that he’s also going to be an executive producer! It means his passion for Warhammer – and his deep understanding of the universe – will have an even bigger impact on the show. After seeing what happened with The Witcher on Netflix when he left, Amazon would be crazy not to really listen to him this time around. It doesn’t undo what happened with The Witcher, but it feels like his opinions will definitely be taken seriously on this project, which is a huge relief.
‘Warhammer 40,000’ Can Make up for Another Sudden End to An Iconic Henry Cavill Role

Warner Bros. Pictures
Many fans still remember Henry Cavill best as Superman, a role he first played in the 2013 film Man of Steel. He continued playing the character in several films connected to director Zack Snyder’s vision. Most recently, he made a brief appearance in 2022’s Black Adam – his first time as Superman in five years – which seemed to hint at a potential return to the role.

Shortly after Black Adam came out, the plans for the DC universe previously established by Zack Snyder were cancelled when James Gunn was brought in to start fresh. Around the same time, Henry Cavill learned his role would be recast, just as he was leaving The Witcher. He quickly went from being a key player in two major franchises to having no role in either. Sadly, he didn’t get to finish the stories for either character. Hopefully, the Warhammer 40,000 project will be successful, allowing Cavill to finally bring a story he loves to life from beginning to end.
