Henry Cavill has shared the first images from the upcoming remake of the 1980s film Highlander, now that filming has begun.
In this latest film, the actor known for The Witcher portrays Connor MacLeod, a legendary Scottish warrior who learns he can’t die. He then faces off against other immortals in a fight to win a powerful prize.
The movie has been in development for several years, but production has been repeatedly delayed. Originally scheduled to begin filming last year, it’s now expected to start in early 2026 after Henry Cavill was injured during preparations.

Filming has officially begun, and the lead actor posted two photos on Instagram showing him as his character, MacLeod. The images have a raw, intense feel that’s similar to the visual style of director Chad Stahelski’s John Wick movies.

Karen Gillan, who plays the wife in the new film, responded to the post with a string of fire emojis.
The film boasts a strong cast, featuring Oscar winner Russell Crowe as the character Ramirez, Dave Bautista from Dune as the villain The Kurgen, and rising stars Marisa Abela (Industry), Jeremy Irons (Watchmen), and Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place: Day One).

A remake of Highlander has been in development for a while. Director Chad Stahelski first discussed his vision for the film with Digital Spy back in 2017.
He said he’s a big fan of the original film, appreciating its unique atmosphere and story, even acknowledging it shows its age. His vision for a remake would be to preserve that same feeling and mythology, avoid overly complicated storylines, and focus on expanding the world of the immortal characters.
He explained that he wasn’t concerned with human affairs, but rather wanted to focus on the world of immortals and stay true to its established traditions.
Highlander is yet to confirm a release date.
