Hell’s Kitchen didn’t deliver the entertainment we expected in episode 9
As a long-time fan of Hell’s Kitchen, let me tell you, I’ve seen some intense kitchen battles and this season 23 is taking the cake… or maybe it should be a dish of hot coal! This “Lonely in the Kitchen” episode was a tough one to watch. The usual excitement of seeing the chefs’ resilience during the challenge was missing, replaced by an uncomfortable silence that spoke volumes about the lack of camaraderie among this season’s head chefs.
We’ve reached episode nine in season 23 of Hell’s Kitchen, and in an episode called “Alone in the Kitchen,” it shouldn’t be a shock that the reward challenge involved a gradual departure of chefs from the kitchen, until just one chef remained to prepare all the dishes.
Typically, this is an episode we really enjoy. It’s the type that showcases the incredible strength and resilience of these chefs. As each chef is taken away from the kitchen, the ones left behind must carry a larger share of the workload. Additionally, it offers a glimpse into everyone’s communication skills, as the chefs who leave the kitchen can still offer guidance to their colleagues through shouts or other means.
This episode wasn’t as enjoyable as usual, possibly due to the fact that it was a season featuring only head chefs and it was filmed on the East Coast for the first time. There’s something about this particular group of head chefs that isn’t resonating well with us, and we suspect it might be because they don’t appear to collaborate effectively.
This season, there seems to be a complete breakdown in collaboration among these chefs. In tonight’s episode, it appeared as though some were intentionally undermining each other. Granted, we don’t catch every moment that transpires in the kitchen, but the absence of communication was quite conspicuous. Remarkably, Gordon Ramsay seemed to pick up on these problems quite swiftly during this episode, or perhaps even earlier during service.
It seemed incredibly challenging to get through this episode because, if everyone had simply talked to one another, the whole kitchen scenario might have turned out very differently. Eventually, it became quite draining to witness Gordon Ramsay constantly shouting.
To clarify, when he finally made a move to expel the blue team from the kitchen, there was a noticeable decrease in tension at least for the red team. It appeared as if with the absence of the blue team, the red team found their rhythm and worked through their initial difficulties.
Regarding Hell’s Kitchen, we’re primarily drawn to the series for its dramatic elements. We tune in to follow the tasks that Gordon Ramsay assigns and observe how everyone performs during dinner service. However, this season has been a tough ride so far. Despite a promising start during the premiere, there hasn’t been a standout successful episode yet.
Perhaps we’re not alone in feeling that this season of Hell’s Kitchen hasn’t been as victorious as past seasons. However, it appears that the chefs aren’t collaborating effectively, which makes it hard for us to cheer for any one contestant. At this stage, I must confess, I just wish the competition would end so we can transition to Kitchen Nightmares.
