Verdict on Hellboy: The Crooked Man
Recap
The film details Hellboy’s regular operation, but things take an unexpected turn. He encounters a malevolent supernatural entity ruling over the region, requiring him to guide them to safety. Yet, Hellboy’s past demons resurface, causing internal conflict in his journey.
Best Parts
The terrifying aspects of this film are superbly executed, and the integration of Hellboy’s supernatural link to Hell is fascinating. It deviates from the traditional comic book aesthetic, offering instead a chilling, nightmare-inducing experience. Whether it’s aiming for a more authentic adaptation of the source material, thereby adopting a smaller, action-packed style, remains to be seen.
Worst Parts
If you compare this movie with its predecessor, you’ll find the tone is significantly more serious. Despite having a smaller budget compared to others in the series, it seems more like an introductory episode for a TV show. It emphasizes character bonding and pure horror over grand, world-saving events.
Last Impressions – Hellboy: The Crooked Man delivers some chilling horror aspects, however, it strays from the familiar style we’re accustomed to.
