Helen Skelton has spoken openly about the speculation linking her romantically with her BBC Morning Live colleague, Gethin Jones.
The Countryfile presenter, age 42, has been in the news lately due to speculation about a new romantic relationship.
Rumors started circulating after reports surfaced that the two had gone on dates at a fancy spa last year.
Helen, who separated from rugby player Richie Myler in 2022, has shared news about her relationship with TV presenter Gethin, age 48.
When asked about whether they’d been having more dates, she told The Mirror, “No, not really. He’s currently working in Manchester, so things are fine.”
Helen clarified that she and her colleague are simply ‘work friends’ and have always been. She emphasized, ‘We only work together – we’re not in a relationship. Definitely not. We’re just friends from work.’
They printed pictures of us at work and that we’re together because we are at work together.’
When Helen and Gethin attended both the Pride of Britain awards in October and a glamorous TV industry event in Manchester a month later, it surprised and excited even their colleagues.
Helen was devastated when her husband, Richie, a former rugby player, left her just four months after their daughter Elsie was born in 2021.
It’s easy to see what these two have in common: they both used to host Blue Peter, both competed on Strictly Come Dancing, and both have the traditionally wholesome look often associated with those who presented children’s television.
Sightings of them together in June – at a spa near Gethin’s home in Cheshire, a good 110 miles from Helen’s place in Cumbria – and carrying a suitcase, really fueled the gossip.
They didn’t address the rumors, and hadn’t issued any denials – not publicly, and not even privately through their representatives – until we reached out to them several times. This is the first time they’ve responded.
Helen recently shared with Prima Magazine that she and her co-star have become very close, sometimes even losing track of being on camera. She described them as great friends, which can make filming their BBC One show with Michelle Ackerley a little challenging.
I’ve known Michelle and Gethin for 25 years. We first connected because Gethin was on Blue Peter before I was, and Michelle and I lived together when we both lived in London, so we became close.
We all think alike, which can be a challenge because we’re such close friends that we sometimes act like we’re not even broadcasting. I spend as much time with my colleagues as I do with my actual friends.
Since January 2024, Helen and Gethin have been the main hosts of Morning Live. The show originally launched three years earlier, created by the BBC to compete with the popular program, This Morning.
Both quickly became viewer favorites, and their energetic chemistry made ITV executives regret not having given Helen her own show sooner.
