As a lifelong enthusiast of the arts and a keen observer of human nature, I find myself utterly captivated by the enigmatic Helen Mirren. In her latest interview, she paid an unexpected tribute to the late Kurt Cobain, expressing regret that he never got to experience GPS – a sentiment that echoes the melancholy longing in one of his most iconic songs.

In a peculiar new interview, Helen Mirren offered an unanticipated homage to the late Kurt Cobain when discussing her gratitude for reaching the age of 79.

In the recent installment of the Brave New World podcast hosted by Lord Evgeny Lebedev, the esteemed actress expressed her sentiment that it’s a pity Kurt Cobain passed away before the advent of GPS technology. During this discussion, she also shared her thoughts on Harry Styles, the topic of mortality, and attending church as an atheist.

In my discourse, I unexpectedly drew a comparison with Kurt Cobain, the iconic lead singer of Nirvana, who tragically took his life at just 27 years old through a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

She talked about growing older, noting: “Life takes away loved ones. I often lament that Kurt Cobain passed away at a time when he couldn’t witness the marvel of GPS technology, as for me, it’s such a joy to see my little blue dot moving along on the map.

‘I just find it completely magical and unbelievable.’

The star also revealed her surprising take on men’s fashion as she discussed how it had developed over the last few years ‘thanks to people like Harry Styles and Timothee Chalamet.’

She stated: “When you observe them on the red carpet or even in regular daily settings, these individuals are actually pushing the limits of what was once considered a traditional male wardrobe.

Helen added, “I admire how creatively black individuals express themselves when it comes to fashion, and it seems they aren’t bound by strict formality or tradition.

Therefore, I believe the Black community significantly altered the norms. I only hope it continues to become more integrated within the broader society.

Meanwhile Helen also opened up about her views on religion despite being a atheist herself.

The actress acknowledged that attending church might appear incongruous with her personal convictions, but she openly expressed her fondness for it because of its dramatic, theatrical aspect.

She playfully said, “Whenever I enter a church, my husband chuckles as I cross myself, kneel, and take the holy water. I simply find the entire church atmosphere so captivating.

As a fervent skeptic, I find myself utterly captivated by the potency of faith. And it’s not just a figment of imagination; when you step foot inside a house of worship, you can feel that power tangibly enveloping you.

You’re seated on a piece of furniture crafted by individuals, while around you are the stunning murals, sculptures, and architectural wonders of the ceiling – all these masterpieces were brought to life by those who held beliefs.

Helen hasn’t shied away from discussing religion before, as she previously encountered criticism when she took on the role of the former Israeli prime minister, Golda Meir, in the biopic “Golda.

In a recent interview with Radio Times, the actress defended her casting as she is not Jewish, noting that this isn’t the first time she’s portrayed a character of Jewish descent. Moreover, she shared her belief that she may have some Jewish ancestry in her background.

Pondering the debated choices in casting, she reflected: ‘The topic of casting seems to have surfaced quite dramatically in recent times.’

In previous films like ‘Woman in Gold’ and ‘The Debt’, I’ve taken on Jewish roles, yet none quite as intensely Jewish as Golda Meir, the character in the current project.

I made sure to inform Director Guy Nattiv, who is Jewish and Israeli, that I am not Jewish, just in case he had any misunderstandings. I told him, “If this presents a problem, I’m more than willing to step aside without issue.” However, he reassured me by saying, “It’s not an issue at all. I want you to portray Golda,” and we moved forward with the project.
