Helen Flangan breaks down in tears as she reveals she felt ‘invisible’ with ex Scott Sinclair and shares fears ‘no man will ever love her’ as a single mum
As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I can empathize deeply with Helen Flanagan’s emotional journey. Her 13-year relationship with Scott Sinclair, filled with feelings of invisibility and fear of being rejected as a single mother, resonates with many women who have been in similar situations.
In the Wednesday episode of Celebs Go Dating, Helen Flanagan found herself emotionally overwhelmed while discussing her past relationship with Scott Sinclair, resulting in tears.
The actress, aged 34, disclosed that she often felt overlooked during her romance with the football player, and expressed concern that no future suitors might appreciate her as deeply again.
Originally of Coronation Street fame at the age of 34, she parted ways last year (2022) with her soccer-playing partner, aged 35, with whom she has three kids, following a relationship spanning 13 years.
Talking to the dating agents Anna Williamson and Dr Tara Suwinyattichaiporn, Helen candidly explained: ‘So I was with my ex… for about 13 years and we split about two years ago.
In my personal experience, it seemed like our relationship wasn’t working anymore – we just didn’t seem to fit together as we once did. It was as if I became increasingly invisible to Scott; I constantly felt like I was competing for his attention.
She added: ‘The arguments we would have were just really sad’.
Helen has kids Matilda (nine), Delilah (six), and a three-year-old son Charlie, whom she shares with her former partner. Additionally, the celebrity admitted that she worries no one may express romantic feelings for her in the future because she is a single mother.
With her eyes welling up, she went on: “I’m not sure if anyone will truly care for me the way I want to be loved.”
Despite the fact that my ex-partner mistreated me, I cannot deny that there was a profound love between us. However, the thought of being seen as anything more than just a potential sexual partner because of my role as a mother of three leaves me uncertain about the possibility of finding genuine love again. My life experiences have instilled in me a deep-rooted fear and apprehension towards entering into new relationships. I find myself questioning if any man would be able to see beyond my status as a mother and recognize the woman within me, who yearns for emotional connection and companionship.
1. It seems that my fear of being turned down might be the issue here, or consider this scenario: A man may find a woman attractive, but he believes she’s not marriage material due to having three children.
Later in the conversation, it was revealed that Helen had cried about her recent separation from her former partner Scott, which they had discussed on Loose Women earlier in the month.
On the program, the actress was joined by her previous castmates Sally Dynevor and Sue Cleaver, along with hosts Kaye Adams and Denise Welch.
When queried about the concept of a ‘happily ever after’, Helen replied: “Ever since I was 19, I was with my ex-partner Scott, who essentially was my entire universe. I had always assumed that we would spend our lives together.”
Regarding your mental health, Denise mentioned: “It seems like you’ve gone through some tough times. Would you mind sharing more about it since you experienced a severe psychological breakdown?”
With a quiver in her voice and holding tightly to Sally’s hand, Helen, who portrayed Sally’s TV daughter Rosie Webster on ITV, responded: “I hadn’t anticipated feeling this overwhelmed today!”
“Although I wasn’t particularly keen on discussing it, I ended up talking about it because I was embarking on a six-month theatre tour, which is the reason for my conversation.”
While discussing her experience with joining Celebs Go Dating, Helen expressed: “I’ve absolutely adored it! It’s been such a blast. To truly enjoy the process, one needs an open mindset, and I found it an excellent method to pass the summer.”
‘But I think it would take someone really special to introduce them to my children.’
Helen previously opened up on her personal heartbreak following her split.
In the midst of grappling with intense feelings, she experienced a disturbing side effect from her ADHD medicine which led her into a state of mental confusion or delirium, known as psychosis.
As I look back, those winter months were anything but easy for me. To be completely honest, my mental health was in a precarious state, particularly around December and January. In an attempt to find some relief, I took my medication, hoping it would help lift my spirits. Regrettably, the outcome was far from what I had hoped – it only made things more challenging for me.
For several weeks, Helen found herself needing to recuperate, causing her to step away from a live performance of Cluedo, a role she eagerly anticipated as a comeback on the stage.
Initially, Ellie Leach, a previous co-star and victor of Strictly Come Dancing, took over her role. However, she is set to return in the spotlight on Celebs Go Dating.
