This year’s festival has officially placed a ban on ‘nudity’ and ‘voluminous outfits’.

For this year’s annual event, marking its 78th return and regarded as one of the most esteemed film industry gatherings, has recently revised its red carpet dress code ahead of its May 13th kickoff. Some popular fashion styles have been explicitly forbidden.

According to the rules clearly stated in our charter, public nudity is not allowed on the red carpet or anywhere else within the festival grounds, for the sake of propriety.

Overly-spacious garments, especially those featuring long trains, which may obstruct guest movement and cause difficulty when arranging seating in the theater, are not allowed. Our festival ushers will have the responsibility to prevent red carpet entry for individuals who fail to adhere to these guidelines.

Actress Halle expressed her displeasure over the ban, stating that she had a stunning gown for tonight’s event, but its train was too large and she couldn’t wear it due to the restrictions.

Filmmakers hail from all over the world, displaying their cinematic works, while dealmakers tirelessly negotiate throughout the night to distribute completed movies or bundled projects across different regions.

According to Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho, he’s unveiling a film in an atmosphere reminiscent of the Colosseum, as he brings back ‘The Secret Agent’, a suspenseful story unfolding during Brazil’s dictatorship, at Cannes.

Preparation is crucial, as the event will be quite immersive, similar to the anticipation you feel before climbing the stairs to a roller coaster at the Palace.

Trump caused a stir in both Hollywood and the global film industry by announcing, on May 4th, that movies produced outside of the U.S. would be subjected to a 100% import tax.

The White House has stated that no definitive choices have been settled yet. Possible paths being considered involve offering incentives from the federal government for productions based in the U.S., instead of imposing tariffs. However, this declaration serves as a reminder of how global conflicts can disrupt even the most established cultural entities.

The Cannes Film Festival initially came into being during the era of World War II, as a response to the growing influence of fascism in Italy, which resulted in the establishment of a competition that countered the government-controlled Venice Film Festival at the time.

Since then, Cannes’ unwavering dedication to cinema has turned it into a guiding light for filmmakers. Numerous directors have flocked there to establish themselves.

Specifically, Kristen Stewart (“The Chronology of Water”), Scarlett Johansson (“Eleanor the Great”) and Harris Dickinson (“Urchin”) will each be presenting their first feature directorial works in the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes.

Several returning Cannes regulars will be present as well, such as Tom Cruise (from Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning), Robert De Niro, who will receive an honorary Palme d’Or 49 years after the premiere of Taxi Driver at Cannes, and Quentin Tarantino. They are there to honor low-budget Western director George Sherman.

This upcoming eighth and last installment of the Mission Impossible series is set to be among the first screenings this year at Cannes, with a grand premiere happening on May 14th, adorned by a dazzling red carpet event.

Meanwhile Scarlett’s directorial debut Eleanor The Great, will be unveiled on May 20.

In light of his ongoing legal dispute with ex-co-star Blake Lively, it’s unlikely that Justin Baldoni will be present.
