As a seasoned Iron Maiden enthusiast with over three decades of headbanging under my belt, I must say, I was utterly flabbergasted by the footage of their recent Australian performance. It seems the spirit of metal has taken an unexpected detour towards tranquility.
Videos of the renowned heavy metal band, Iron Maiden, playing in Australia have become widely popular online, following the event being labeled as a ‘boring’ or ‘sleep-inducing’ show.
On September 1st, a multitude of heavy metal fans flocked to Perth’s RAC Arena for the chance to witness a live performance by the British band during their The Future Past Tour.
As I looked on, it seemed the enthusiastic audience struggled to fully immerse themselves in the electrifying performance of the band’s latest hit from 2021, “Hell on Earth”.
At concerts of the heavy metal genre, it’s common to witness enthusiastic fans engaging in activities like slam dancing (moshing), riding on top of the audience (crowd-surfing), and forming circular mosh areas called circle pits.
In the TikTok-shared video, attendees gently moved their heads rhythmically with the music’s tempo as the stage was illuminated by bursts of fireworks.
‘IRON MAIDEN in Australia wtf,’ text read over the clip.
As an over-the-moon fan, I was utterly dumbfounded, seeing the sea of comments overflowing with astonishment, highlighting the surprising absence of energy and enthusiasm from the audience.
‘And the crowd goes mild,’ someone wrote.

‘The energy from that crowd would be enough to power a 7W light,’ said another.
‘Is that audience alive,’ a third wrote.
Here’s everyone looking similar to meerkats on alert. It’s Iron Maiden! Let’s get moving and let loose, not a single hand raised yet? This user suggested.
Some fans weren’t surprised and noted previous concerts have had the same vibe.
‘Saw them at soundwave [festival]. was a snooze fest,’ a fan commented.
