Heath Ledger lookalike is crowned in Sydney as celebrity competition trend hits Australia… but fans are more stunned by the uncanny runner-up
As a seasoned observer of human behavior and cultural phenomena, I must say that the current trend of celebrity lookalike competitions has certainly piqued my interest. These events seem to be a unique blend of entertainment, fan adoration, and perhaps even a dash of friendly competition.
Over the weekend, the popular trend of celebrity doppelganger contests reached Australia for the first time, featuring a competition dedicated to the likeness of the late Heath Ledger.
Following the recognition of Timothée Chalamet and Jeremy Allen White’s look-alikes in the U.S., Sydney held its own doppelganger competition on a Saturday.
People who strongly resemble the Australian actor Heath, gathered at Camperdown, hoping to win the title of his doppelganger with the closest resemblance.
In addition to being evaluated based on their likeness to the deceased Australian actor, contestants were required to engage in entertaining singing and acting contests as well.
In a bid to imitate, everyone present was required to perform their most convincing version of the song “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” a hit made popular by Heath in the beloved movie, 10 Things I Hate About You.
Additionally, they were required to display their most brooding expressions and attempt to mimic the rhythm of the “Why So Serious? Beatboxing Challenge,” a popular TikTok fad where users beatbox in the style of Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker.
Additionally, their ranking considered who had the coldest beer, and added intrigue with the unique Aussie factor of those who had crossed the Nullarbor Plain when they were just 16 years old in a classic Australian fashion.
In the end, Jude Bailey, a young fellow, emerged victorious in the doppelgänger contest and pocketed a $51 cash award.
In an article by The Courier Mail, it was reported that Jude attributed his victory to his mother, who encouraged him to join the lookalike contest.
At an exceptionally well-attended open-air gathering, he captivated the audience by performing a version of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” following his announcement as the victor.
Instead, it was the second-place finisher in the competition who sparked a frenzy on social media, as numerous people were taken aback by his striking similarity to Heath.
A clip posted on TikTok featured an individual, thought to be named Samuel Preston, flaunting his physique in a white vest, standing next to his peers during a competition, displaying their muscular builds.
As a devoted admirer, I jumped at the chance to voice my sentiments in the comment section, expressing my astonishment upon realizing his striking resemblance to the late Heath. Yet, what truly captivated me was his magnetic charm, which left me yearning for him to have emerged victorious.
‘Yeah tank top won that immediately,’ one wrote, while another simply said: ‘White tank top.’

A third remarked: ‘When you have eyes for second place at the Heath Ledger lookalike contest.’
One exclaimed, “This is genuinely excellent!” while another observed, “He behaves as if he’s aware he’s being filmed.
The event had been advertised on flyers all around Sydney before the big day and was hosted and judged by comedian Joshua Khoury and Luca Trovato.
As a devoted enthusiast, I chose to organize a Heath lookalike contest due to my belief that this individual embodies the quintessential Aussie spirit – making him an ideal representative of our national identity.
Heath hails from Perth and later shifted to the U.S., ultimately achieving stardom in Tinseltown through his performances in Brokeback Mountain and The Dark Knight franchise.
Sadly, he met an untimely end due to an unintentional drug overdose at the age of 28 in his New York residence. Despite hailing from Australia, he continues to be cherished and admired as a global icon.
Recently, it seems that celebrity doppelganger contests have been quite popular, with this trend spreading across the world.
A few weeks ago, over fifty individuals who bear a striking resemblance to Jeremy Allen White from “The Bear” gathered at Humboldt Park in Chicago to display their likeness to the actor.
37-year-old Ben Shabad was declared the undisputed doppelganger champion in a gathering of over 300 spectators at the park, where they gathered to witness the event.
The video clearly showed a large group of people shouting the actor’s name and raising him aloft in triumph after his win.
Ben, a mental health therapist, expressed his joy by saying, “I’m absolutely thrilled!” He added that this was the most exciting thing he had accomplished in the past seven days.
Only a few weeks ago, Timothee Chalamet caused quite a stir among his admirers in New York when he surprisingly attended his doppelganger competition unannounced.
Surrounded by security personnel, the actor struck poses for pictures next to individuals who looked remarkably like him – a few even donned costumes reminiscent of his character roles, such as Willy Wonka and Paul Atreides from Dune.
Enthusiasts journeyed all the way from Saint Louis, Missouri, and River Falls, Wisconsin, for the eccentric contest, with the top doppelganger receiving a prize of $50.
Miles Mitchell, a senior at a college on Staten Island, ended up winning and threw sweets out of a case while wearing a violet costume reminiscent of Willy Wonka following his triumph.
Attending the exhilarating doppelganger contest, widely publicized with flyers across New York City, was an exciting opportunity arranged by YouTube sensation, Anthony Po.
Just a few moments into the event, before the actual Timothee arrived, the authorities asked the crowd gathered in Washington Square Park to leave.
The organizers received a fine of $500 for holding an unauthorized costume competition, and at least one look-alike was taken into custody while wearing handcuffs as the audience shouted, “Set him free!
Witnesses and competitors told DailyMail.com the scenes that unfolded were ‘insane’.
In a different setting, someone commented, “Those capturing it and those responding to the police added an extra level of performance. It was simply ridiculous.
