Heartwarming moment Jodi Benson tears up with pride as she watches her daughter perform her iconic role as Ariel the Mermaid
As a lifestyle expert and avid theater enthusiast, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of joy and pride as I watched Jodi Benson’s daughter, Delaney, bring Ariel to life on stage in a production of The Little Mermaid. Having voiced the beloved character in the original 1989 Disney cartoon film, it was truly surreal to see the legacy continue three decades later.
Jodi Benson felt a deep sense of joy and pride as she watched her daughter perform the role of Ariel in a stage production of The Little Mermaid, thirty years after she originally did so herself.
In the original 1989 Disney animation, Benson, who is now 62 years old, provided the voice for Ariel. This was prior to the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, which sparked controversy when Halle Bailey took on the role.
Delaney acted out a role in Miami’s Area Stage for a 90-minute musical adaptation of a beloved kids’ cartoon series.
Last week, Benson watched and waved at Delaney while she sung the well-known tune “Part of Your World” in a fan-recorded video, which Benson subsequently shared.
In the video, there was a scene where the young actress was depicted wielding a fork. This element was an innovative adaptation in the production, allowing the viewers to engage with the props.
In simple terms, Benson expressed his amazement to Entertainment Weekly about Delaney’s exceptional portrayal of Ariel. Her acting ability made it seem as if she was destined for the role. The overall experience left him feeling quite unreal.
‘I wept throughout the show. I am so honored to pass on my treasured dinglehopper to my daughter.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but be in awe of how Delaney brought her creation, Ariel, to life with such depth and emotion. Filled with love, resilience, sensitivity, and insatiable wonder, I feel an immense sense of pride as if I were her proud parent.
As a devoted admirer, I’d love to share my understanding of the intriguing distinctions between the movie and the musical version of Delaney’s work. The film adaptation, while visually stunning, doesn’t quite capture the depth and immersion that the musical offers. In the musical, you become a part of the experience, feeling the emotions more intensely, making the connection to the story even more profoundly personal.
“I’ll have the crowd directly in front of me, within my sight and reach. Their presence is palpable, almost indescribably new to me.”
I absolutely adore reminiscing about my childhood, and one particular memory that brings me immense joy is dressing up as Ariel, the little mermaid, during summers gone by. Every time I stumble upon old photographs of myself in that iconic costume, my heart skips a beat. It’s like stepping back into a magical world where imagination reigned supreme, and dreams could be brought to life through a simple outfit and some creativity.
