Heartstopper star Sebastian Croft delights fans as he launches a music career and admits his songs were inspired by ‘having my heart broken’

Sebastian Croft surprised fans by starting a music career, revealing a recent breakup motivated him to begin writing songs.

Joe Locke, the 23-year-old actor known for his roles in Heartstopper and Game of Thrones (where he played young Ned Stark), has just released his first single, titled ‘Tokyo’.

Having achieved success as an actor, he’s now pursuing music, and he recently shared what motivated him to start.

He said:  ‘I had a break up two and a half years ago and the only thing I could do was write songs.

After going through a really tough heartbreak, I just focused on getting through each day and poured all my feelings into songwriting. I wasn’t thinking about anything beyond simply surviving.

‘Cut forward two and a half years I’m almost a week away from having my first song come out.

It feels strange even admitting this, and honestly, it’s a little frightening. I’ve never told anyone before, and it’s making me really nervous.

Coming from acting, where you often play a role and build a career, putting myself out there like this feels really vulnerable and a little scary. But honestly, I’m also incredibly excited, and I’ve genuinely enjoyed the whole experience.

Playing our first gig for an audience of strangers was an incredible feeling, and I’m really excited about what’s next.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m always impressed by people who use their platform for good. This actor, with over 1.8 million Instagram followers, is a great example! They’ve built a really dedicated fanbase and are incredibly vocal about important issues like LGBTQ+ rights and making sure everyone feels represented – it’s fantastic to see.

He shared a video on Instagram of himself playing guitar, filmed after a small fan gathering where he performed his music. He captioned it, ‘It’s amazing – a dream I’ve had since I was 10 years old has finally come true!’

This moment feels both happy and sad – it grew from a painful experience, but has blossomed into something beautiful.

I’m so grateful to everyone who joined me on Sunday morning. It truly means a lot to me, and I’ll always remember it.

Delighted fans flocked to the comments to share their joy and love for his new release.

Someone expressed immense pride and joy, calling the boy ‘wonderful’ multiple times and saying they feel lucky to be his fan.

Another wrote: ‘It was nice meeting you, had a good time listening to your songs!’

‘So proud of you!!,’ wrote one.

One excited fan said: ‘Everybody UP!! first verse of Tokyo just dropped.’

‘CANT WAIT TOO SEE YOU GROW!!,’ wrote another.

He is now set to perform to fans at The Lower Third in London on December 16.

Sebastian played the character Archie in Heartstopper, and his character secretly has feelings for his friend Amelia, who was played by Charithra Chandran from Bridgerton.

He went on to secure a voice role in the action role-playing Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy.

Players can personalize their characters in the game, and Sebastian’s voice is one of the options available for them to select.

He had to explain his involvement in the project after facing criticism. This came after JK Rowling received significant backlash in early June 2020 for sharing controversial opinions about the transgender community.

Earlier this year, Sebastian tweeted that he joined the project before he knew about J.K. Rowling’s opinions.

He explained that he was originally cast in the project more than three years ago, when Harry Potter was simply the enchanting world of his childhood.

I didn’t know about JK Rowling’s opinions at the time. I firmly believe that trans women are women, and trans men are men.
