Heartstopper gets a concerning season 4 update

As a dedicated Heartstopper fan who has followed the series since its humble beginnings, I must say that this latest news about Kit Connor’s uncertainty over season 4 has left me feeling a bit like Charlie Spring at the school dance – nervous and hopeful but also questioning if my heart will be truly stopped again.

Within just a few weeks, “Heartstopper” exploded into a worldwide sensation. This captivating eight-episode Netflix series about two teenage pals who discover love swept the globe in 2022, garnering praise from critics, Emmy Awards, and a passionate, devoted following. After watching even just one season, it’s clear to see why.

Over these past two years, it has been nothing short of remarkable to see this show expand and flourish as viewers have grown fond of our beloved cast members and their charming characters. Stars like Joe Locke and Kit Connor have soared to new heights in their careers, yet they never fail to carve out time in their bustling schedules to rejoin us for more episodes. Following the resounding success of season 3 in October, we, the fans, are eagerly awaiting additional installments!

It appears that “Heartstopper” is currently in an unexplored region, as it hasn’t been renewed for another season since the premiere of season 3, which was about two months ago and Netflix hasn’t made any announcements yet. However, a recent update from one of its actors has sparked some worry among fans.

Kit Connor isn’t sure if Heartstopper season 4 is happening

Actor Kit Connor, known for his role in Heartstopper, has been featured on The Hollywood Reporter’s “Next Gen Talent 2024” list. The article reveals that Connor is uncertain about whether the series will continue for another season. In simpler terms, the article states that Connor isn’t sure if there will be a new season of Heartstopper.

Connor, 20, isn’t sure if Heartstopper will return for a fourth season

It’s worth mentioning that Heartstopper may well come back for a fourth season, and while this is generally good news, fans are feeling a bit anxious since it marks the first instance where the series hasn’t been renewed so promptly.

Following the triumphant first season, the series was given a green light for seasons two and three. Frankly, I wasn’t expecting a fourth season announcement just yet, considering how well season three performed. Yet, here we are, still waiting for the word. It seems like Netflix might be taking their time to decide (or at least they haven’t shared their decision with us yet).

But there is a lot for Netflix to take into account here when it comes to ordering a renewal. The cast has been extremely busy since becoming overnight sensations (Connor is busy on Broadway and will then have to promote some of his upcoming films, while costar Joe Locke recently joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Agatha All Along), so new deals would have to be worked out that would ensure all of them could return for another season. And given how their workload has increased over these past two years, finding time in their schedules that all line up might not be as easy as before. It would certainly be doable, but it just might take more time to make it happen (hence any possible delays).

Heartstopper season 4 would likely be the final season

Additionally, it should be noted that a potential fourth season of “Heartstopper” might serve as the concluding chapter. Creator Alice Oseman has expressed her intention to wrap up the series fittingly, and she hinted that this could happen in a fourth season if they secure renewal for it. On a recent episode of Tommy DiDario’s podcast “I’ve Never Said This Before”, Oseman stated confidently that it would indeed be the final season if they receive the season 4 renewal, expressing optimism about its chances.

I really really just want to tell the end of the story on TV and bring all of those characters, their stories, to a close… So fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, the rest of the cast is presumably occupied, with Connor actively performing in a contemporary adaptation of “Romeo and Juliet” on Broadway. He recently shared with The Hollywood Reporter his desire to “have a brief respite,” intending to refresh his mind and tastes before venturing into something entirely new. Considering the rapid and swift pace at which he’s ascended, it’s only natural for him to seek a well-deserved break – all the more so if “Heartstopper” is set to produce another eight episodes.

In a remarkable turn of events, Locke’s recent mini-series, titled “Agatha All Along,” has wrapped up its successful nine-episode stint on Disney Plus. Since it’s a miniseries, another season isn’t anticipated; however, with his newfound place within the world’s most prominent franchise (the MCU), it’s highly likely that we’ll see Locke back on our screens in another Marvel Cinematic Universe project shortly. This prediction is further bolstered by whispers of his character potentially receiving a standalone series and possibly even leading a Young Avengers project.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a fourth season of Heartstopper, where we might see the reunion of our beloved characters, Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring, wrapping up their captivating tale.
