Actress Michelle Trachtenberg, best known for her role on “Gossip Girl,” passed away at the age of 39 in New York City, following a liver transplant procedure.
Following the announcement early on Wednesday, touching tributes started pouring in across various social media platforms.
One of the earliest supporters was Ed Westwick, her co-star from Gossip Girl where he portrayed Chuck Bass, a well-known character on the series.
Expressing deep sorrow, the actor posted on Instagram Stories about Michelle Trachtenberg’s demise, offering prayers accompanied by a praying hands emoji and a heart symbol.
He also shared an image of Trachtenberg playing Georgina on the TV series.
Travis Wester, who acted alongside Michelle Trachtenberg during EuroTrip, also expressed his condolences: ‘I’m heartbroken to hear about the untimely death of Michelle Trachtenberg. During our time together, she was an inspiring force on set, her comedic talent was bold, and off-camera, she was compassionate, gracious, and thoughtful. I hope her legacy will bring comfort.’

Michelle died of natural causes following a liver transplant, police sources told ABC News.
On a Wednesday morning, around 8 a.m., the mother discovered her daughter deceased in their apartment close to Columbus Circle, New York City.
Police told DailyMail.com that there is no foul play suspected in her death.
Information obtained by TMZ indicates that the actress has recently received a liver transplant, following struggles with alcohol-related problems.
The medical examiner’s office will perform an examination after death to definitively determine the cause.
On February 26, 2025, at around 8:01 AM, the police were called to 1 Columbus Place due to a report of someone needing assistance. This incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Midtown North Precinct, according to a statement released by the police department.
When they arrived at the scene, the officers found a 39-year-old woman who was unconscious and unresponsive. Emergency Medical Services were summoned to the location, and they declared the woman dead.
It appears no criminal activity is involved at this point. The Medical Examiner is tasked with finding out the reason behind the death. The investigation continues.



According to TMZ, the actress spent her last evening socializing with friends at Sartiano’s restaurant on Thursday night.
Trachtenberg gained significant recognition for her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a teen supernatural series that aired on UPN from 2000 to 2003.
She played Buffy’s younger sister Dawn Summers in 66 episodes of the hit show.
Born in Brooklyn, this individual additionally starred as Georgina Sparks, a frequent character portraying the Witch of the Upper East Side, across 28 episodes of the television series Gossip Girl on The CW network from 2008 to 2012.
She also appeared in the 1996 film Harriet the Spy alongside Rosie O’Donnell.
