Heartbreaking new details emerge in Malcolm-Jamal Warner drowning death as second victim was trying to SAVE actor
Officials have confirmed that a man found critically injured following the tragic drowning of actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, was attempting to rescue him.
On a Costa Rican beach, absent any lifeguards, the beloved character from The Cosby Show, aged 54, passed away. A representative from the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) disclosed that a Good Samaritan had bravely ventured into the water to assist Warner when he was pulled away by a strong undertow.
It’s confirmed that a 35-year-old man, who wasn’t previously known to the actor, happened to be on the beach when the actor encountered trouble. The man wasn’t personally acquainted with the actor before the incident.
An investigation is still ongoing.
DailyMail.com has contacted the OIJ for further comment and has yet to hear back.
Costa Rican cops ruled Warner’s cause of death as asphyxiation by submersion.

At Playa Cocles, located within Limon province, Warner found himself caught in a strong undertow, drawing him further out towards the sea.
Emergency personnel from Costa Rica’s Red Cross discovered Warner in a critical condition, lacking signs of life, at approximately 2:10 PM on Sunday during a water-related accident scene.
CPR was performed on him for around 20 minutes before he was pronounced dead.
According to the OIJ, a funeral service company authorized and hired by Warner’s family will take his body away from the Judicial Morgue.
After the unexpected passing of Warner, lifeguards from the coastal community of Playa Grande in Costa Rica issued a statement explaining that their absence was due to resource shortage.
The Caribbean Guard, Costa Rica’s volunteer lifeguard organization, posted on Facebook yesterday that they are deeply saddened by the unfortunate death of Malcolm-Jamal Warner at Playa Grande. He tragically lost his life due to drowning after being pulled away by a powerful rip current.
In an unexpected turn of events, things unfolded rapidly. As I looked out, I could see individuals rushing into the sea, attempting a valiant effort to save someone in distress. Regrettably, despite their swift action, they arrived just moments too late.
He was retrieved from the water with no signs of life, and although CPR was administered on the shore, reviving him proved impossible.
The Guard mentioned that Playa Grande is considered one of their particularly tough coastlines, emphasizing the existence of warnings in both English and Spanish about the potential risk of drowning leading to fatalities.

For a number of years, the Guard claimed they weren’t on duty when Warner passed away, despite having previously patrolled the area.
Because of some water-related accidents at Playa Negra lately, as well as Chiquita, a famous beach with powerful tides, we have shifted our resources towards these locations, according to their announcement.
They then made an appeal to Costa Rica’s president, Rodrigo Chaves Robles, and the government.
Hailing from Caribbean Guard, a dedicated volunteer lifeguard group, we are making an immediate plea for unity. We appeal to the President of our nation, the national government, the Talamanca Municipality, and all members of the Caribbean community to collaborate further in order to curb this escalating issue that unfortunately affects every corner of our country.
As a dedicated follower, I’m all in, leaving no stone unturned in our efforts. Over the past few years, we’ve been instrumental in saving countless lives that might otherwise have been lost to drowning. The sobering truth is, if Caribbean Guard wasn’t around, the number of such tragedies would be counted in dozens. We pour our heart and soul into minimizing these risks, but without government assistance, well-defined policies, and robust support from local businesses, this unfortunate reality persists.
According to the Red Cross, emergency personnel also treated a second person at the scene.
A 35-year-old gentleman, whose identity is yet to be determined, was urgently taken to a nearby health facility in a grave state. At present, there’s no information available about his condition.

On a Sunday, the Costa Rican Red Cross got a distress call about a water-related situation at Playa Grande, Cahuita, Limón. Consequently, they dispatched three ambulances to the location, according to Us Weekly’s report.
According to Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Department, their initial findings suggest that Warner seems to have entered the ocean and may have been carried away by a strong undertow.
Warner had been in Costa Rica since July 13.
In the Limón province, near the coast at Cocles Beach, the Costa Rican authorities confirmed finding the body of Warner.
Although the specifics about the event are still vague, specialists caution that certain beaches in Costa Rica could potentially be hazardous under certain weather or environmental conditions.
While some spots are perfect for a swim, others carry strong undercurrents and rip tides that require careful attention.
Warner leaves behind his spouse and their little daughter, who was born in 2017. At this time, their names are not disclosed.

Warner gained significant fame for his memorable portrayal of Theodore Huxtable, the unique son of Cliff Huxtable, on the cherished NBC sitcom The Cosby Show. He graced every episode from its debut in 1984 until its finale in 1992, receiving universal praise and establishing himself as a familiar face across America.
During that period, Warner was still a young teenager, yet his act garnered universal praise, even landing him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at the 1986 Primetime Emmy Awards.
The character named Theo was modeled after the real-life son of Bill Cosby, Ennis Cosby, and was skillfully played with both depth and compassion.
During his freshman year at New York University, Theo’s academic struggles led to a diagnosis of dyslexia, a plotline that struck a chord with many spectators.
Beyond The Cosby Show, Warner carved out a successful and diverse career in both comedy and drama.
He played the role of Malcolm McGee in the UPN sitcom “Malcolm & Eddie” (1996-2000), alongside Eddie Griffin, and later led the cast of BET’s “Reed Between the Lines” from 2011 to 2015 as Dr. Alex Reed.
Apart from his primary roles, he also made frequent appearances on various TV shows such as Sons of Anarchy, Jeremiah, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Community, and lent his voice to the character of the Producer in the educational kids’ show The Magic School Bus.
