Heartbreaking new details emerge in Deadliest Catch star’s death at sea at 25

More information has come to light about the death of Todd Meadows, a crew member on the reality TV show Deadliest Catch. The details are upsetting.

The US Coast Guard is investigating the death of a 25-year-old fisherman. They told TMZ that he fell off the Aleutian Lady fishing vessel in the Bering Sea.

A spokesperson for the maritime security organization stated that on February 25, 2026, at 5:05 PM Alaska time, the Coast Guard in Juneau received a report from the fishing vessel Aleutian Lady. The report indicated that a crew member, Todd Meadows, had fallen overboard about 170 miles north of Dutch Harbor.

The crew found him unconscious about ten minutes later. They tried to give him first aid and revive him, but their efforts weren’t successful. He was then taken to Dutch Harbor.

An autopsy was performed on the body of Meadows at the Anchorage Medical Examiner’s office in Alaska after it was received on February 27th, and the body was released yesterday.

The US Coast Guard is investigating the incident and working to determine what happened. As the primary marine safety agency in the country, the Coast Guard examines accidents and mishaps at sea to find the reasons behind them and prevent similar events in the future.

Captain Rick Shelford, the star of the Discovery Channel’s reality show, shared the unfortunate news on his Facebook page Monday morning.

Captain Shelford described Wednesday as the ‘most tragic day’ in the Aleutian Lady’s history, as Meadows had died onboard. He is survived by his three sons.

The Discovery Channel expressed deep sadness over the death of Todd Meadows in a statement to the Daily Mail.

Captain Shelford shared in a heartfelt post that Meadows had recently joined the crew and quickly become like family. His dedication and strong work ethic immediately earned the respect of the entire team.

He went on to share that the man’s smile was infectious, and they’ll always remember hearing his laughter echo through the ship or over the loudspeaker.

According to TMZ sources on Monday, a fishing accident during filming led to the death of Meadows, and it’s currently unknown whether the incident was recorded.

Sources close to the situation say that after the deckhand died, a memo was sent to the producers of Deadliest Catch. This memo detailed the incident and offered support resources for those dealing with the loss.

Captain Shelford shared in his statement that they are deeply saddened, and no words can truly capture their grief.

The Aleutian Lady is a 125-foot fishing boat that primarily catches King Crab, Bairdi crab, Opilio crab, and cod in the Bering Sea.

The ship, built in 1980, typically sails with a crew of five to eight people and is owned by Captain Shelford.

From 2023 to 2025, the fishing vessel Aleutian Lady and its captain, Shelford, appeared on the Discovery Channel show for three seasons – nineteen, twenty, and twenty-one.
