Which LoL Esports moment broke your heart the most?
For nearly as long as League of Legends video game has been played, its esports have provided fans with much joy and excitement – along with moments that left us feeling quite downhearted. Here are some of the most emotionally charged League of Legends scenes that came close to making us rush off to the beach in tears.
Dyrus’ farewell
During the 2015 League of Legends World Championship, Marcus “Dyrus” Hill gave an emotional interview after his team TSM had been defeated by LGD Gaming in the group stage. With a record of 1-5, TSM was struggling to advance to the next round.
TSM enjoyed immense fan affection. For nearly four years, Dyrus has been the organization’s leading player in the top lane. In his final interview, he expressed regret to his fans, saying, “I’m truly sorry for not living up to your expectations.” He continued, “I owe you all a debt of gratitude. Now, it’s time to turn the page. My journey concludes here.
Indeed, the crowd enthusiastically cheered him on, particularly echoing the TSM chant that holds a significant emotional resonance for numerous Western League of Legends fans.
Faker in Worlds 2017
In Worlds 2017, now four-time champion Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok was one step away from the trophy.

In the final game, Samsung Galaxy was leading 2-0 over SKT T1. It was almost game over for SKT as they had accumulated four Elemental Drakes. However, an unexpected turn of events occurred when Ruler’s Varus managed to trap Faker’s Karma using a flash-ultimate, eliminating the midlaner. This crucial moment swung the balance in Samsung Galaxy’s favor, allowing them to secure a clean sweep against SKT and ultimately claim the championship trophy.
As the camera shifted focus to SKT, it became clear that the team was deeply distraught. Faker, notably, had his face buried in his hands. This poignant scene stirred emotions not just among SKT’s supporters, but also those who rooted for him as a fellow competitor.
Keria – Worlds 2022
By the end of Worlds 2022, Faker and T1 had been on a quest to win their fourth trophy. The final match against DRX stretched to its limits, but it was DRX who claimed victory in the game, series, and championship. After an incredibly grueling and tense series, T1’s support player Ryu “Keria” Min-seok couldn’t hold back his feelings following the defeat.

Initially, it was Jungler Mun “Oner” Hyeon-jun who offered comfort, with the rest of the T1 team following suit afterwards. In addition, a heartfelt moment was noticed between Keria and his previous teammate from DRX, jungler Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon.

Deft – Worlds 2022

Across Keria’s sorrow, the tears of joy from Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu were equally touching.
Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu’s tears of joy contrasted the anguish of Keria, stirring our emotions as well.
In the same year as Faker, he commenced his professional career. Compared to Faker’s more illustrious path towards winning the Summoner’s Cup, Deft’s journey was markedly tougher and less glamorous. The weight of his emotions culminated when he was questioned following the victory against T1, and upon finally being crowned a World Champion after years of striving.
G2 Esports’ almost-win in Worlds 2019

In the League of Legends 2019 World Championship Final, it was G2 Esports who faced off against FunPlus Phoenix. The anticipation was at its peak as this was the first time in a while that the West had a chance to win since Fnatic’s victory in Paris. With the event taking place in Europe, there was an added sense of excitement for home team G2, whose storyline resembled a thrilling anime plot. They were the stars of the show.

To the disappointment of numerous spectators, FunPlus Phoenix extinguished the West’s aspirations completely by defeating G2 decisively in the championship match.
