Heartbreak as beloved Aussie star of The Matrix dies aged 57

The Australian film community is mourning the passing of Martin Grelis, a well-loved actor who died this week at the age of 57.

Talent agency Sophie Jermyn Management announced the death of Grelis on Tuesday via social media.

Sharing a picture of a happy Grelis, they posted: ‘Rest in peace, Martin. We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear client.’

Martin was a truly radiant person who brought joy to everyone around him. He was a gifted actor, known for his kindness and warm spirit.

We are deeply saddened to hear of his passing and send our heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

The actor, a well-known figure in the industry, worked for nearly thirty years. He started his career with a minor part in the famous sci-fi film, The Matrix, alongside Keanu Reeves.

He was also well-known for his role as a detective in the 2014 mini-series Schapelle, which told the story of the drug smuggler’s trial.

Grelis also appeared in All Saints, Water Rats and the 2012 mini-series Mabo.

His last acting job was earlier this year in the TV series Alpha King, where he appeared with Mia Pimentel, who also starred in Last King of the Cross.

Heartbroken fans took to social media to pay tribute to Grelis.

People expressed their sadness upon hearing the news, describing Martin as a kind and wonderful person. They sent their heartfelt sympathy to everyone who knew and loved him.

‘Sorry to hear this news. Sending love,’ a second added. 

Ada Nicodemou also starred The Matrix alongside Grelis.

In 2019, her cameo role resurfaced online – and her fans loved every minute of it. 

The Home and Away star, 48, appeared in the sci-fi blockbuster as Dujour.

And her look – and wardrobe – was eons away from Summer Bay’s beloved Leah Patterson.
