Heartbreak Ahead: The Calamity’s Dark Path in To Be Hero X!
Shifts attention from the thrilling events to delve into Lucky Cyan’s unexpectedly tragic childhood, marked by her exploitation following a fatal plane crash. She was manipulated due to her knack for bringing good fortune. Her rescue comes in the form of a boy known as “The Calamity,” who is said to have a talent for causing calamities wherever he appears.
It’s odd for a child who appears so cheerful and innocent to possess such immense power. Given that many people fear real disasters, it seems this ability could stem not from what creates superheroes, but rather from the source of villainy: Fear. This suggests a troubling future for Calamity, leaving fans of Lucky Cyan’s story with a broken heart, much like previous arcs left them.
The Calamity Is a Child Known to be Magnet for Disaster
Calamity & Cyan Form an Unlikely But Perfect Bond
Trouble arises when Cyan encounters him isolated in a room, tuned into a radio broadcasting the Queen’s speech. Instead of revealing his real name initially, he shares that he is known as “The Calamity” due to his peculiar talent for drawing catastrophe wherever he lands. The narrative switches to Miss Zhao briefing the orphanage leader about the havoc that Calamity has caused at the previous homes he resided in before this transfer, which encompassed fires, floods, and financial collapse.
The director swiftly emphasizes that Calamity is just a young boy, who found refuge at their orphanage so he could have a better future. It’s believed that the plan was to counterbalance his misfortune with Cyan’s good fortune, creating an ideal match. Interestingly, Cyan was intended to guide Calamity away from the calamities associated with his power, but it’s Cyan who turns out to be a source of hope and positivity in Calamity’s life instead.
Although Calamity is known for his power and reputation, he is actually a joyful and content boy. On the other hand, Cyan, who brings happiness to others, often feels lonely and confined due to her elevated status. Calamity demonstrates to Cyan that she can be an ordinary girl, experiencing both good days and bad ones, regardless of her fortune. The moment when she accidentally activates the orphanage’s emergency sprinkler systems serves as the start of a heartwarming and unbreakable bond between these two individuals who, despite their differences, seem destined to be together.
In To Be Hero X, Trust Creates Powers With More Positive Connotations
Calamity’s Misfortune Couldn’t Have Been Born From Trust
In the game “To Be Hero X“, individuals don’t possess natural superhuman abilities or acquire them from accidents. Instead, trust serves as the defining factor for a hero. The more trust an individual has (represented by their Trust Value), the greater their power. Additionally, it is more likely for someone with high trust to develop unique powers based on what others believe about them. For instance, Moon gained her teleportation ability due to her initial fame as a traveling influencer on social media. Firm Man received golden leg braces that enabled him to withstand any force because of his reputation as a steadfast figure in the public eye.
It’s not clear how Cyan initially acquired her seemingly endless streak of good fortune, but it’s evident that her luck became even more robust as more people began to trust in her ability to bestow blessings. Since the director portrayed her as a divine figure capable of granting luck, Cyan’s power grew rapidly, and she amassed an impressive Trust Value, even at a young age.
Simultaneously, the Reliance Score for Calamity stayed at 10. However, it seems that wherever he’s been, every orphanage he’s encountered has faced disaster, a pattern that never ceases to repeat. This is due to the fact that his subconscious belief in causing calamity enhances the potency of his power, suggesting that his misfortunes might be as significant as Cyan’s good fortune. Given his low Reliance Score and strong negative influence, it’s plausible that Calamity’s power of misfortune originated from Fear instead of Reliance.
How Does Fear Work in To Be Hero X’s Trust Value System?
People’s Fear of Disaster Is What Created “The Calamity”
The idea of Fear is presented and operates much like Trust. Just as Trust can foster superheroes, Fear transforms individuals into supervillains. To begin with, Cheng Yaojin, a previous superior of Lin Ling, serves as the initial illustration of how Fear can alter an individual. As his company plunged into bankruptcy and many employees began to fear job loss, Yaojin, in collaboration with the Spotlight Organization, developed a power to expel projectiles resembling termination letters. These items, upon touching a person, would induce paralyzing fear.
In times of fear, a person’s resilience against feelings such as anger and worry diminishes, often leading them to respond aggressively or impulsively. As Moon puts it, individuals in this state become difficult to reason with due to fear essentially transforming them into something less rational. Fear can also empower people without the necessity of boosting their Trustworthiness, a phenomenon exemplified by the emergence of God Eye. God Eye came into being when the Spotlight Organization approached Enlighter following a drop in his Trust Value, persuading him to “welcome fear.
It’s intriguing how strong Calamity’s power to cause destruction remains, given his low Trust Value. People have an innate fear of misfortune, and it appears that with each disaster occurring near him, the suspicion and blame towards Calamity only grew. Over time, he became synonymous with bad events, until being known as “The Calamity” was more a curse than just a title he couldn’t escape.
What Will Happen to Calamity in To Be Hero X Episode 9?
Fear Can Turn Cyan & Calamity’s Friendship Into Another Tragedy
Even though it’s often said that misfortune follows calamity, this phenomenon hasn’t been observed directly in action yet. However, based on the preview for Episode 9 of To Be Hero X, Calamity appears to possess the power to trigger his bad luck intentionally when he warns the director about it. As Episode 8 concludes with the director blocking Cyan and Calamity’s escape route, viewers are eagerly waiting to see if Calamity will use his abilities to try and rescue Cyan and enable her to finally break free from her restrictive existence.
Regrettably, due to Calamity’s extraordinary abilities, there’s a high risk that innocent people might get injured or the orphanage may sustain significant damage. This could tarnish Calamity’s image and label him as the antagonist. If the director manages to survive, he’ll fan the flames of controversy, crafting a narrative that portrays Calamity as intent on destroying a beacon of hope. Given the director’s esteemed standing as a saintly figure, many are likely to believe his version of events over Calamity’s.
People are concerned about Calamity’s potential for destruction. Any narrative that portrays him negatively could amplify his power and potentially transform him into a true antagonist. Fear might also warp his mind, much like it did with Yaojin. Although he may have employed his powers to save his friend, he harbors anger towards the director and the injustice they both faced. This resentment could easily evolve into unadulterated malice under the influence of fear.
In a sneak peek of Episode 9, we find Cyan being enlisted by the hero group DOS, marking the beginning of her dual career as both a musician and superhero. It seems that she has parted ways with Calamity, leaving his future uncertain and open to speculation. If the series To Be Hero X doesn’t outright eliminate him, it’s entirely plausible that Calamity emerges as Cyan’s adversary. Matters could worsen if he encounters the Spotlight Organization, a group known for transforming Yaojin and Enlighter into notorious supervillains.
Following the Nice and E-Soul storylines, Hero X has gained a reputation for stunning its audience and tugging at their heartstrings. The tragic turn of events where Calamity, Cyan’s dearest friend, descends into villainy could very well align with this series’ penchant for emotional turmoil. This is because Cyan and Calamity were initially portrayed as opposites, much like Trust and Fear in their role as contrasting forces. Given that only Cyan possesses the power to subdue Calamity, the plot seems almost predestined.
