They are so close that Taylor Swift once dubbed Ed Sheeran her ‘second brother’.

Sources say Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran’s friendship has become tense recently. This is reportedly due to Swift releasing her new, highly successful album around the same time as Sheeran’s own album release.

Even though Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift are close friends, he didn’t know when her album, ‘The Life Of A Showgirl,’ would be released. The album is currently number one on the charts.

In May, the popular British singer announced his eighth studio album, titled ‘Play,’ would be released on September 12th.

In August, Taylor Swift revealed she’d be releasing a new collection of her own on October 3rd, only a few weeks after Ed Sheeran’s release.

According to someone familiar with the music industry, Ed Sheeran is very meticulous about releasing his albums, carefully planning everything in advance. He gave fans four months’ notice about his new album, but Taylor Swift then announced hers would come out just two weeks later.

His team rushed to gain attention before hers faded, and he was quite upset and frustrated by it all.

‘It is not the first time that Taylor has done something like this. She’s got form.’

Ed Sheeran’s album started at number one when it was first released, but Taylor Swift’s new album has now pushed it out of the top ten, claiming the top spot instead.

Taylor Swift faced criticism last year for releasing different versions of her album specifically in the UK right around the same time Charli XCX released her album, ‘Brat.’ Some people accused Swift of intentionally trying to prevent Charli XCX’s album from performing well on the charts.

 

Taylor Swift’s album kept Charli XCX from reaching number one, allowing ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ to stay at the top of the charts.

Taylor Swift also responded to Billie Eilish’s new album, *Hit Me Hard And Soft*, which was challenging Swift’s position at the top of the US charts. When Eilish seemed likely to reach number one, Swift released several new versions of her own album – including digital downloads and a CD edition.

Each version of the album included a unique, previously unreleased song, motivating dedicated fans to purchase all the different versions and maintain Taylor Swift’s chart-topping success.

Ed Sheeran has talked before about strategically planning when to release his albums. He explained in 2017 that many of his biggest competitors – including artists like Beyoncé, The Weeknd, and Bruno Mars – all released albums the previous year, and he was worried about competing with them.

Taylor Swift likely won’t release new music until the end of the year. Releasing around Christmas is a smart move because that’s when most people purchase albums.

They’ve been friends for more than ten years, ever since they worked together on the song ‘Everything Has Changed’ in 2012. After that, Ed Sheeran opened for her on tour.

The pair eventually settled in Nashville, where they became very close friends. Sheeran explained they spent nearly every day together for around six months.

According to a source, they last saw each other at Selena Gomez’s wedding in California on September 27th. They both spoke at the wedding, but didn’t talk about when their new albums would come out.

Taylor Swift recently shared that she didn’t personally tell her close British friend about her engagement to Travis Kelce. Instead, Ed Sheeran learned the news through Instagram.

She confessed she hadn’t called Ed to share the good news before announcing it to her 282 million Instagram followers.

She shared that this person is one of her favorites in the world, and when she heard the news, she realized they’d forgotten to contact Ed.
