He ALMOST Died, Then This Happened!
The reality TV personality, Sam Vanderpump from Made In Chelsea, announced his engagement to his girlfriend, model Alice Yaxley, following only half a year of dating them together.
In a recent post on Instagram, Sam, who is 27 years old, announced some exciting news to his followers. Notably, his aunt, Lisa Vanderpump, well known for her roles in The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and its spin-off series Vanderpump Rules, is also a part of this family.
In a photoshoot inspired by weddings, Alice gracefully displayed her dazzling engagement ring as she looked radiant in a short white gown with delicate ruffles.
In a post dated February 23rd, Sam joyfully announced the news by saying, ‘She agreed.’
Besides OK! Magazine, Sam and Alice additionally announced their engagement, acknowledging that their romance has been an exhilarating roller coaster ride.
Even though they hadn’t been together long, he declared his readiness to propose when she stood by him during her critical fight against sepsis.
In simpler terms, he conveyed that Alice and he have only been in a relationship for approximately six months. However, they’ve experienced a lot in such a short timeframe. Since the very beginning, Alice has spent most of her time with him around the clock. During Christmas, they encountered a challenging period where he became extremely unwell.
Due to a genetic condition I have, I developed an infection that progressed into sepsis, putting me in a critical situation. I required hospitalization, and my situation was touch-and-go; I nearly didn’t make it.
The encounter significantly strengthened our bond. In that moment, as I looked at Alice, I found myself contemplating, “She’s the one I wish to spend my life with.” Consequently, my thoughts were, “If I feel this way now, what’s stopping me?
* Sam mentioned that he was the one who arranged the whole proposal, even obtaining approval from Alice’s father, and he proposed to her in a secluded viewing room inside a jewelry store.
He admitted that he utterly stumbled over his own words, because of his nervousness, and added that they were both deeply moved when Alice agreed.
Way back in January, I recall Sam revealing a harrowing experience where he came perilously close to death due to sepsis. It was Alice, quick on her toes, who dialed an ambulance after the renowned figure became disoriented, having endured days in bed battling dehydration and excruciating back pain. As a devoted fan, it’s moments like these that remind me of their heroism.
Sam, informed by physicians that waiting another 24 hours in the hospital would have been fatal, discovered that his liver and kidneys had ceased functioning and required immediate medical care.
Meanwhile, Sam’s body battled the infection, but unfortunately, he developed sepsis. This put both his mother, Simone, and his model partner, Alice, in a state of grave concern about his life.

While Sam was struggling with the infection, it led to sepsis, causing great worry for his mother, Simone, and girlfriend, Alice, as they feared for his life.

Sam shared: “I truly believed I was on the brink of death. I wasn’t sure if my body could withstand it, and that was the most frightening part. It was absolutely petrifying.
‘The doctor told me I was developing liver and kidney failure, which left me in tears. Surprisingly, my mother remained composed instead of breaking down as one might expect under such circumstances, choosing not to frighten me further.’
The doctor described my liver as ‘disordered’ and ‘malevolent.’ It didn’t feel right when I touched it, but when it stopped functioning properly, my heart had to work harder because my liver and kidneys weren’t filtering waste effectively, putting stress on my pancreas, and my spleen was also unhealthy.
You could experience such intense discomfort and agony, I was desperately struggling just to stay alive. I had a strong doubt that I would make it through, let alone leave the hospital.
‘You never expect the flu to land you in a critical condition, fighting for your life in a hospital bed. My mother was informed that if I had delayed going to the hospital by 24-48 hours, I would not have survived. Thankfully, my girlfriend’s call to the ambulance ended up saving my life.’
Sam, upon being urgently taken to the Resuscitation Unit, shared that the doctors were astonished by his preliminary test findings, which underscored the gravity of his health situation.
He mentioned that a liver function test measures if your liver is functioning properly. In normal conditions, the liver produces a specific protein known as C-reactive protein (CRP). This protein gets released into your bloodstream to combat infections.
If your body isn’t infected, it produces little to no substance (ranging from 0-5 milligrams), as it’s not required. When you have a mild infection, the amount produced is approximately 50 milligrams. However, when the infection is severe and requires immediate medical attention, the production increases to around 100 milligrams. In my case, the substance level was significantly higher, reaching approximately 400 milligrams.
In simpler terms, my white blood cell count, typically ranging from 8-12, was twice as high. Additionally, my liver enzyme levels, normally around 40, were found to be 140. This information led the medical professionals to inform me that I was the most ill patient currently on their ward.
It wasn’t just liver and kidney failure which caused Sam to be so unwell.
He too developed sepsis, a condition that arises when an infection prompts an overly aggressive response from the body’s defense mechanisms.
Sam said: ‘This all led to sepsis. Luckily, they worked overtime, monitoring me every single hour.
During the initial 48 hours, they battled to suppress the infection. For the subsequent week, I was prescribed two distinct kinds of antibiotics and one antifungal medication.
Due to his health issue, Sam, well-known for his roles on the E4 show Made In Chelsea, contracted jaundice, resulting in his skin and the whites of his eyes turning a shade of yellow.
Additionally, he required a catheter insertion due to his inability to expel fluids naturally, resulting in excessive water accumulation.
Sam, typically showing off his well-defined abs and frequently sharing bare-chested pictures on Instagram, expressed shock when he noticed his stomach ballooning to the dimension of that of a pregnant woman.
Sam said: ‘When your liver stops working, you get jaundice, so my eyes were yellow.
I experienced unbearable pain when my kidneys ceased functioning, preventing any fluids from leaving my body. This was undoubtedly the most agonizing ordeal I’ve ever encountered in my life.
In simpler terms, ‘They inserted a catheter into my penis due to excessive water retention. Normally, I have a six-pack, but my abdomen ballooned out so much it appeared as if I were expecting. It was incredibly painful and uncomfortable.’
As a devoted admirer of my own health journey, I’ve typically tipped the scales at around 87 kilograms. However, upon leaving the hospital, a miraculous transformation had occurred – I now weighed a svelte 72 kilograms! In just eight days, I managed to shed an astounding 15 kilograms, a testament to the power of recovery and resilience within us all.
While I was yet bedridden in the hospital, I remained at 80 kg due to approximately 8 kg of water retained in my abdomen and limbs. Consequently, my legs also began to swell significantly. Fortunately, they considered inserting a needle to drain the excess water, but thankfully, my kidneys regained function instead.
Sam explained how his near-death experience was caused by multiple factors.
According to the business owner, he’s had liver and kidney ailments since birth, but these conditions have remained inactive throughout his lifetime.
As a child, Sam underwent routine bi-annual examinations at Great Ormond Street Hospital between the ages of 4 to 16, and currently receives care at King’s College Hospital.

As a die-hard fan, I couldn’t help but feel my heart race when I came down with the flu and found myself battling asthma simultaneously. This perfect storm of illness triggered a relentless infection that pushed my immune system to its absolute limit.
He mentioned that he had liver and kidney ailments, but they have remained largely inactive for the last 28 years.
‘I undergo health check-ups every six months, and I’ve been informed that I am in good health. My liver function is optimal, and I’ve been advised to carry on with my regular lifestyle. It is believed, with 75% certainty, that a previous bout of the flu might have temporarily weakened my immune system, allowing another disease to take hold at the same time, potentially contributing to my current state.’
Sam is the youngest son of Mark and Simone Vanderpump, with one older brother named Jack.
Mark, who was Lisa Vanderpump’s older brother and a businessman and DJ, sadly died in 2018 aged 59.
The investigation into his passing concluded that it was a suicide, with lethal drug overdose identified as the reason for his demise.
Since becoming a member of Made In Chelsea’s cast last year, Sam has openly acknowledged his enjoyment of socializing and imbibing with his fellow actors. However, a recent experience has caused him to reconsider his perspective on life.
