It felt inevitable that HBO would need a new big hit to carry them through the next ten years, and honestly, Harry Potter feels like the perfect choice. It’s a massive, beloved world with tons of potential, and it’s exactly what they need.
The series is easy to enjoy for viewers who like lighthearted fantasy. It already has a built-in fanbase from the books, films, and other related media. Plus, it has the potential to run for many seasons, drawing from seven books’ worth of material – giving it an advantage over House of the Dragon, which has a more limited story to tell.
HBO’s decision to create a new Harry Potter series seems like a smart move. While some changes from the films might not appeal to everyone, it offers a fresh opportunity for a new generation to enjoy the wonder of Hogwarts, similar to how longtime fans experienced it when the books and movies first came out. Despite any criticism, audiences are clearly more enthusiastic about this extended fantasy series than they were about House of the Dragon.
