HBO’s Masterpiece Limited Series Chernobyl Is a Global Streaming Hit on PVOD

HBO is known for producing many highly-rated and popular TV shows. In 2019, they released a limited series that remains incredibly popular today, even after six years.

The five-episode series was a huge hit, winning many awards and becoming a standout production. Featuring perfect casting and acting, it powerfully portrayed the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Even years later, the series is still considered a masterpiece, and it’s recently been popular on demand, according to FlixPatrol.

Recently, the series Chernobyl unexpectedly climbed into the top 10 most popular shows on the Apple TV Store in several countries. It reached as high as number 2 in Canada on December 16th and remained in the top 10 for several days. The show also briefly appeared in the lower rankings in both France and the United Kingdom.

This isn’t the first time the limited series resurfaced on PVOD, as earlier this year, as well.

While Chernobyl took some artistic license in portraying the disaster itself, the series accurately depicted the political and ethical choices made by those involved in the government’s response to the tragedy.

The limited series vividly portrayed the Chernobyl disaster, showing its immediate effects in 1986 and the long-term consequences for both the environment and the surrounding communities. Critics particularly praised the show’s realistic depiction of events and its focus on holding those in power accountable for the Soviet government’s attempts to conceal the truth about the disaster.

Chernobyl Is Regarded as a Masterpiece

The five-episode miniseries Chernobyl is widely considered to be one of the greatest TV shows ever made. As of today, it remains in the top five on IMDb’s list of the Top 250 TV Shows, boasting a 9.3 rating from nearly a million viewers. It’s currently ranked behind Breaking Bad, both Planet Earth limited series, and Band of Brothers, but slightly ahead of The Wire.

Critics and viewers alike overwhelmingly praised the limited series, giving it near-perfect scores on Rotten Tomatoes – 95% from critics and an impressive 97% from the audience. It was also a major awards winner, earning 10 Primetime Emmy Awards, including the award for Outstanding Limited Series.

The actor also praised the five-part HBO series Chernobyl, calling it one of the best things they’ve seen recently and describing it as fantastic.

Chernobyl is streaming on HBO Max.
