HBO’s Harry Potter Confirms Charlie Weasley, Omitted From Original Movies

Fans of the series will be excited to hear that a well-known character, Charlie Weasley, is confirmed to appear in the upcoming HBO reboot. A set photo recently revealed his involvement in the new production.

An Instagram post from HBO Max revealed that Charlie Weasley will appear in the series, though not immediately. The post explained he’s currently in Romania but will join the story later on, stating, “Charlie’s in Romania at the moment but will be joining us soon enough…”

Charlie Weasely Will Make His Harry Potter On-Screen Debut

The cast of the HBO Original Series Harry Potter is growing! Joining Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley are Tristan Harland as Fred Weasley, Gabriel Harland as George Weasley, Ruari Spooner as Percy Weasley, and Gracie Cochrane as Ginny Weasley. We’re thrilled to welcome them all!

Who Is Charlie Weasley in Harry Potter?

Charlie Weasley was Arthur and Molly Weasley’s second oldest son. After leaving Hogwarts, he went to Romania to study dragons. He joined the Order of the Phoenix during the Second Wizarding War and bravely fought in the Battle of Hogwarts, witnessing Harry Potter’s final defeat of Lord Voldemort.

The first Harry Potter films left out a character, probably because his part in the books wasn’t crucial to the main plot. Adding him would have meant more screen time and development, which the filmmakers wanted to avoid to keep the movies a manageable length and within budget. They felt his absence didn’t hurt the overall story.

HBO’s Harry Potter Reboot Cast

HBO’s new series will feature a stellar cast, including Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. Joining them are John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Hagrid, among other talented actors.

The new Harry Potter series will also star Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, and Warwick Davis, who is reprising his role as Filius Flitwick – making him the only original cast member returning for the reboot.

Filming is Underway for the New HBO Harry Potter Series

Fans were excited to learn that Charlie will be appearing in the show, and new pictures recently surfaced showing the Weasley family at the train station where they depart for Hogwarts.

Even before its release, HBO’s new series is sparking debate among fans of the franchise. Director Chris Columbus, who directed the first two films – The Sorcerer’s Stone and The Chamber of Secrets – recently expressed his concerns. He questioned the need for the series, noting that some of the costumes look very similar to those in the movies and worried it would feel repetitive.

HBO’s Harry Potter reboot is expected to arrive sometime in early 2027.
