HBO’s new series, a continuation of the Game of Thrones story, was very popular when it premiered in January. Even though the first season finished airing its six episodes over a month ago, the show is now seeing a significant increase in viewers who are renting or buying it on demand.
Currently, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the most popular TV show on Apple TV globally, according to FlixPatrol. It’s even ahead of the popular fantasy series Outlander, which recently returned for its eighth season on Starz. The show is also performing well on Amazon, landing at number 10 on the platform’s list of top TV shows available for purchase.
The Game of Thrones Spinoff Is a Major Success
“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is a prequel to HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and the second spin-off series, after “House of the Dragon.” Based on George R.R. Martin’s “Tales of Dunk and Egg” stories, the show follows Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall and his young apprentice, Aegon “Egg” Targaryen (played by Dexter Sol Ansell). The events of the series are set roughly 90 years before the beginning of “Game of Thrones.”
The new series has been a huge hit! Season 1 earned a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics overwhelmingly giving it positive reviews. It also attracted a large audience, becoming the most-watched series since HBO Max launched. HBO had confidence in the show from the start, renewing it for a second season even before Season 1 premiered. The show has now been renewed for a fourth and final season.
The Game of Thrones Universe Expands
HBO is excited to continue expanding the world of Game of Thrones with new seasons of both House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms over the next three years, according to Francesca Orsi, Head of Drama Series and Films. She stated that these shows demonstrate the incredible depth and imagination of George R.R. Martin’s universe, and that viewers will especially enjoy the compelling story of Dunk and Egg, beautifully brought to life by George and Ira Parker.
The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms starred Daniel Ings (known for The Gentlemen), Shaun Thomas (The Selfish Giant), Danny Webb (Alien 3), Henry Ashton (My Lady Jane), Daniel Monks (All Her Fault), and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Avengers: Endgame). The second season will introduce new cast members Lucy Boynton (Miss Potter), Babou Ceesay (Into the Badlands), and Peter Mullan (Session 9).
You can watch A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on HBO Max, and episodes are also available to buy on the Apple TV app.
