HBO Officially Unveils Harry Potter Series First Look

The Boy Who Lived is back.

HBO is creating a new TV series based on J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books. Each season will cover one book, aiming to be more faithful to the original stories than the previous movies.

HBO has given fans their first glimpse of the new Harry Potter series. The image released shows a young Harry Potter (played by Dominic McLaughlin) from behind, wearing Gryffindor Quidditch robes with his name and the number 7. Mara LePere-Schloop is responsible for designing the look of the school in the series. The post included the caption “Tomorrow ⚡️,” suggesting a teaser trailer might be released soon.

A new TV series based on the Harry Potter books is being made in the UK at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, Casey Bloys, the head of HBO, suggests it might arrive as early as 2027. With HBO Max launching in the UK, we’re starting to see more promotion for the series.

Production for the series began last July, with news of casting being announced.

The cast includes Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Warwick Davis as Professor Filius Flitwick, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, alongside McLaughlin.

I recently heard Davis talking about the new series, and it sounds amazing! They’re staying true to the original stories, but they’re really digging deeper and adding so much more detail than we’ve ever seen before. They couldn’t reveal much, but it’s clear they’re excited to do these wonderful stories justice.

Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter in the original eight films, recently sent advice to the actor taking on the role in the new production. The first movies were a huge success, earning over $7.7 billion worldwide between 2001 and 2011, and the entire Wizarding World franchise is now valued at more than $11 billion.

Although there isn’t a specific release date yet, the next Harry Potter book is expected to come out in early 2027.
