As a huge movie fan, I was really excited to hear that HBO is still considering a spin-off series continuing the story from The Batman. That film, directed by Matt Reeves, was fantastic – a really dark and realistic take on Batman that I loved seeing in 2022. And it’s great that Reeves is expanding that world with The Penguin series, which everyone’s been talking about since it came out in 2024. Hopefully, we’ll get even more stories set in that version of Gotham!
Fans initially thought of The Penguin as a limited series, meaning it would only have one season and wouldn’t continue beyond that, especially since Colin Farrell, who played the villain, wasn’t expected to return. However, there’s been talk recently that the show might continue after all.
Casey Bloys, the head of HBO, recently shared news about a possible second season of The Penguin. He said discussions are continuing about making more episodes of the Batman spin-off series.

So, I’m hearing from Screen Rant that HBO is actively discussing a possible Season 2 of The Penguin with the folks over at DC. Apparently, they’re figuring out what that next chapter could even look like – still very early stages, but definitely some conversations happening.
“We are talking to the [DC] team about what a second season of ‘The Penguin’ could look like.”
Ever since Season 1 ended late last year, fans have been eagerly awaiting news about The Penguin Season 2. After the first season finale, showrunner Lauren LeFranc shared with TopMob that they would only continue the series if they could surpass the quality of Season 1, and that she was very enthusiastic about the possibility of making a second season.
A few months later, the future of the show became uncertain. In February, DC Studios co-head Peter Safran told reporters they weren’t sure if it would be renewed for a second season, explaining that many factors were still being considered.
There are currently no confirmed plans for a second season of The Penguin. However, Matt Reeves is continuing to expand his corner of the DC universe with The Batman – Part II, which is scheduled for release in 2027.
How Likely Is The Penguin Season 2?

It feels like it’s only a matter of time before HBO officially renews The Penguin for a second season. HBO appears eager to move forward, but it hinges on getting Colin Farrell and the original creative team to return.
Considering the positive reception of The Penguin Season 1, it’s logical to move forward with a sequel TV series based on The Batman. The HBO show earned nine Primetime Emmys in its first season, even though it received a total of 24 nominations and was predicted to be a strong awards contender.
The Emmys saw surprising wins for shows that aren’t typically recognized, including a win for Cristin Milioti as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her portrayal of the chilling Sofia Gigante/Falcone.
It’s rare for a show to become a hit like The Penguin has, so it would be unwise for the creators to stop now or even to not consider making another season.
Although there’s been no official announcement, it’s likely a second season will happen eventually.
Will it be anytime soon? That remains another question entirely.
Since Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 is scheduled for October 2027 and Colin Farrell’s Penguin will likely appear in it, it’s logical to expect the second season of The Penguin to be released sometime after that movie comes out.
