Hayley Atwell’s Unbelievable Stunt While 8 Months Pregnant Stuns Mission: Impossible Fans!
WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
In “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” an astonishing feat that left audiences in awe wasn’t even carried out by the series’ leading star, Tom Cruise. Despite Cruise’s long-standing reputation for performing death-defying stunts as Ethan Hunt across the Mission: Impossible films, it’s important to note that he’s not the only cast member to take part in these exhilarating action sequences and iconic fight scenes. In fact, Cruise outdid himself in “The Final Reckoning” by not just clinging to the side of an antique biplane but also executing challenging moves on its wing – a feat that marked his most impressive stunt within the Mission: Impossible franchise.
It’s quite unfair that despite Tom Cruise and the Mission: Impossible series revolutionizing and pushing film stunts to their limits, the Academy Awards haven’t started giving out Best Stunt Oscars until 2028. This could very well be the incentive for Cruise to reprise his role in another Mission: Impossible movie, even though The Final Reckoning was thought to be his final film in the series. Given that Top Gun 3 is set for release in 2027, it could potentially be nominated for the inaugural Best Stunt Academy Award at the 100th Oscars ceremony.
Hayley Atwell Did Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’s Big Fight Scene 8 Months Pregnant
Atwell Pulled Off The Most “Impossible” Stunt In The Final Reckoning
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, actress Hayley Atwell disclosed that she unexpectedly filmed a fight scene when she was 8 and a half months pregnant for the movie Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. This surprising detail was shared toward the end of her interview with Fallon, as she discussed promoting the eighth installment of Mission: Impossible on the late-night program. Atwell explained to Fallon that during this particular fight sequence, she was actually eight-and-a-half months pregnant at the time.
In the movie “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” the event Atwell discusses transpires relatively early on. Here, she and Ethan find themselves surrounded by hostile attackers planning to extract information from them through torture. Ethan sustains some heavy blows from a large combatant, while Atwell deftly uses martial arts moves against her adversary. The scene becomes particularly intense when the opponent attempts to stab Atwell with a knife near her throat. What makes this scene even more impressive is that it was filmed during Atwell’s third trimester of pregnancy.
Hayley Atwell Doing The Final Reckoning’s Action While Pregnant Is More Impressive Than Tom Cruise’s Stunts
Throughout Tom Cruise’s entire Mission: Impossible series, the stunts are nothing short of astounding. But what Rebecca Ferguson achieved during a fight scene while being that far along in pregnancy is unbelievable. What makes it even more astonishing is that it’s hard to tell she was that far into her pregnancy from the scenes. This prompts speculation about whether her baby bump was digitally erased or not filmed with certain angles and lenses. Ferguson’s revelation is quite remarkable, but unfortunately, Fallon didn’t ask any further questions about it, leaving the audience amazed but curious.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’ve always admired Tom Cruise’s bravery in pushing his physical limits for the silver screen. He’s put his body and life on the line countless times, and his exceptional filmmaking and stunt work are second to none. Performing those intricate moves during her pregnancy must have been risky for Rebecca Ferguson, but what truly amazes me is that she managed to execute them with such convincing authenticity.
In an interview with Fallon, Atwell mentioned, “I was treated exceptionally well. Everyone was incredibly supportive, offering, ‘You can rest and we’ll use a stunt double.’ But I said, ‘No, I’ve put in the effort! Let me perform it.’ So, I went ahead and did it.” Atwell was speaking about the extensive preparation she underwent for her role as Grace, a skilled pickpocket, in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
