Hayley Atwell reveals what it was really like working with ‘magnetic’ Mission Impossible co-star Tom Cruise after bizarre romance rumours

Hayley Atwell discussed honestly her experience collaborating with her charismatic colleague, Tom Cruise, on their Mission Impossible project, following speculations about a peculiar relationship between them that had been floating around earlier.

It was commonly believed that the actors who collaborated in the previous two Mission: Impossible movies were in a romantic relationship before she started dating and later got engaged to music producer Ned Wolfgang Kelly, but this was not the case.

In the past, the actress, now 43, had dismissed rumors about a romantic relationship with Cruise, describing him as being more like an ‘older relative,’ or an ‘uncle’ figure.

At the moment, it’s believed that 62-year-old Cruise is dating actress Ana de Armas. They have been photographed together on multiple occasions throughout this year.

Speaking to HUNGER Magazine Hayley gushed about Tom saying he was a ‘very magnetic movie star’. 

Hayley mentioned that he is both diligent and committed, highlighting him as the true shining light responsible for the overall success of the Mission Impossible series.

Talking about his screen presence, she softly remarked: “There’s no one quite like him now, and there may never be again.

She has previously denied a romance with Cruise.  

She expressed concern to The Independent, wondering why people assume or presume things about her relationship with her coworker and supervisor without any solid basis.

In simpler terms, it means bringing individuals from my real life, particularly those close to me, into situations where they are affected. This can sometimes feel intrusive or too private.

Hayley and Ned tend to keep their romance private, seldom appearing in public photos together.

In addition, during the HUNGER interview, she discussed her plans to become a mother in 2024, along with her involvement in Mission Impossible and ongoing theater projects.

In May, Cruise and Hayley were spotted at the New York premiere of Mission: Impossible 8 – The Final Reckoning, looking quite friendly together.

After reuniting with their fellow actors and crew members, the long-time costars had a special moment on the red carpet outside New York City’s Lincoln Center.

At the most recent red carpet premiere, starting from May 14 in Cannes, it seemed like Hayley gently squeezed Tom Cruise’s shoulder while they engaged in a confidential conversation, leaning close to each other.

On Heart Radio, alongside Pandora Christie, Hayley shared insights into the robust relationship they share and expressed her enthusiasm for their upcoming movie.

Providing a glimpse into their friendship behind the camera, she disclosed that he excels at choosing thoughtful gifts.

She stated: ‘A while back, Tom actually took my grandmother for a helicopter ride on Christmas Eve as the sun was setting. That was an incredibly thoughtful present from him to me.’

‘Was that just a surprise? Did you know so had you planned it?’ Pandora asked.

Hayley shared: “I was aware of it, but she wasn’t. I led her to this place with a café nearby, which she didn’t know about, and pointed out, ‘See that helipad over there.’ To my surprise, she replied, ‘No way would I get on a helicopter, oh no, it’s too risky.’

One moment, we were sipping our tea, and unexpectedly, Tom Cruise appeared from around the corner, saying “Hi.

My grandmother was simply wonderful; she greeted him warmly as if they were long-time acquaintances, saying ‘Hiya!’ followed by, ‘Hello darling, are you okay?’ She then gave him a heartfelt embrace.

‘And he goes ”are ready to go on a helicopter with me?” and she just went ”yep!”

She lays aside her cane, confidently strides towards the helicopter, finds a seat at the back, and absorbs everything around her.

I found myself in the company of an incredibly considerate individual who took the time to elucidate each moment, every emotion, and even the intricate technicalities involved. The experience was nothing short of breathtakingly tranquil.

Being in the helicopter with her above London, taking in the breathtaking view together, and witnessing her reaction – a priceless moment for me, I believe. It also showed how thoughtful and generous he is, as that experience held significant value for her.

Pandora remarked, ‘That friend is for life, I truly believe it,’ just before Hayley agreed with a simple ‘Yes.’
