As a seasoned horror movie enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of the genre since the golden age of Wes Craven, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the upcoming sequel to “The Breed” – now titled “A Breed Apart.” The addition of Hayden Panettiere, best known for her chilling performance in “Scream,” only serves to heighten my anticipation.

It was announced back in June 2024 that Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey would be acting in a remake of the nature-themed horror film “The Breed”. Now, another big name has joined the cast – Hayden Panettiere, who is famously known for her role in “Scream”! She, along with other actors, will be sharing the screen with Gardner and Currey in this upcoming horror flick.

Hang on! Let me clarify some details about this film. Contrary to initial assumptions, it’s not a remake but rather a continuation of the story from The Breed. Furthermore, it has been officially named A Breed Apart.

Despite the scriptwriter’s identity remaining unknown, filmmaking siblings Nathan and Griff Furst (known for “Nightmare Shark”) are set to direct and produce the upcoming film through their Curmudgeon Films production company. Furthermore, Daro Film Distribution has agreed to co-produce and finance the movie as well.

In a fresh, offbeat take on the 2006 film “The Breed,” which was produced by Wes Craven, A Breed Apart is set following the initial movie’s events. Here, a brand-new band of individuals find themselves battling for their lives against an unyielding horde of vicious canines on a secluded island.

The plot of A Breed Apart sees a pack of dogs escape during the making of a fictional The Breed 2 movie during filming on a remote island. Years later, a group of YouTubers are drawn to the island to try and find the canines in a project they hope goes viral and which is the brainchild of influencer Vince Venture, who is played by Bragg. The reality is that they face a fight for survival and each of the influencers must use their unique skills to stay alive.

In this film, Currey takes center stage as she portrays the character of Violet. This defiant and resolute individual is on a mission to locate some dogs, but the roles of Gardner and Panettiere remain undisclosed for now. The rest of the cast includes Joey Bragg, known from ‘Sid is Dead’ and ‘Call Your Mother’, Troy Gentile from ‘The Goldbergs’, Riele Downs of ‘Bel-Air’ and ‘Darby and the Dead’, as well as Page Kennedy, who has been seen in ‘Meg 2: The Trench’ and ‘The Upshaws’. Bragg will be portraying Vince Venture, a character who is an influencer in the movie.
