Hayden Christensen’s Reaction To The Most Outlandish Padme Theory Goes Viral, & I’m Not Surprised
At the Star Wars Celebration 2025 event, the actor who played Anakin Skywalker, Hayden Christensen, addressed a long-standing Padmé Amidala theory that has been around for years. However, he doesn’t find it convincing at all. It’s been two decades since Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith was released in cinemas, but the relationship between Padmé and Anakin continues to be a significant aspect in Star Wars films and series. Fans often regard their relationship as one of the best in Star Wars. But, Hayden Christensen is here to debunk one surprising theory about Padmé Amidala.
At Star Wars Celebration 2025, Hayden Christensen discussed a speculation that Padmé was secretly involved with Obi-Wan Kenobi, which allegedly fueled Anakin’s intense jealousy in “Revenge of the Sith.” However, in this video shared on X by rotsanakins, Christensen seems to reject this theory, labeling it as “quite extraordinary” instead.
In my humble opinion as a movie reviewer, while Anakin Skywalker himself, portrayed by Hayden Christensen, might disagree, there’s a kernel of truth to this Star Wars theory – though it’s not exactly how it’s usually presented.
George Lucas Did Actually Seem To Consider A Love Triangle
Lucas Toyed With This Idea In The Prequel Trilogy
It’s interesting to note that there were rumors that George Lucas contemplated introducing a love triangle among Padmé, Anakin, and Obi-Wan in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. This concept, which Lucas ultimately decided not to pursue, would have introduced complex feelings early in the series, potentially leading to tension between Anakin and Obi-Wan. In the first episode, Padmé was supposed to develop feelings for Obi-Wan Kenobi, setting up a dynamic that could have resulted in jealousy on Anakin’s part later on.
In a different interpretation of the love triangle theory that Christensen mentioned, Padmé and Anakin’s relationship in “Revenge of the Sith” would have taken on a significantly altered context. To put it simply, the anger Anakin displayed on Mustafar was not due to romantic jealousy; instead, he had become consumed by the dark side because his intense desire to save Padmé had overtaken him. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Christensen has addressed this theory, as he humorously commented on it in an interview, which some felt reflected Anakin’s character.
Our Take On The Padmé / Obi-Wan Romance Theory
We’re With Hayden Christensen On This One
I’m genuinely glad George Lucas didn’t introduce a love triangle into the prequel trilogy, as the relationship between Padmé and Anakin was already intense, captivating, and multifaceted without it. In my opinion, adding another layer might have weakened their narrative, making their love appear less genuine in the process. What makes their on-screen romance so impactful is that their love was genuine, tragically leading to their demise in the end.
In the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” we found another version of a similar story (though not as intense, since it wasn’t about Anakin’s mentor Obi-Wan), where Rush Clovis was involved instead. During this storyline, it turned out that Padmé had a past love interest, and this caused Anakin to become very jealous, leading him to even physically attack Rush at one point. So, while we get to witness Anakin dealing with these emotions in this version, it’s important to note that it doesn’t support the theory about Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala that Hayden Christensen discussed at Star Wars Celebration 2025.
