Hayden Christensen pays nostalgic tribute to Ewan McGregor on Hollywood Walk of Fame

As a gamer with a deep affection for the Star Wars universe, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of nostalgia as I reflect upon the heartwarming tribute by Hayden Christensen at Ewan McGregor’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. The bond between these two actors, forged on the set of Attack of the Clones, has been a beacon of friendship and camaraderie in a galaxy far, far away.

As a gamer putting myself in Ewan McGregor’s shoes, I can only imagine the excitement when my buddy from the epic Star Wars saga, none other than Hayden Christensen, honored my achievements on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It felt like reliving our iconic bromance all over again!

In a touching tribute, Ian Christensen, who starred as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader alongside McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequels, honored his longtime friend and co-star during the ceremony. Their first meeting took place on the set of 2002’s “Attack of the Clones”, a memory Christensen cherished as he spoke at the induction.

Christensen reminisced, sharing that he frequently recalls the initial encounter with you, which took place in Australia. At that time, we were preparing for “Star Wars: Episode II”. As I was directed to a room where Ewan was supposed to be, before I could even lay my eyes on him, I heard his voice. With more excitement than I believe I’d ever heard it uttered before, he called out my name. Turning around, I saw you, and then you were advancing towards me, delivering the warmest, most disarmingly friendly hug.

In that one brief encounter, Christensen knew he was not only meeting “someone truly special” but a friend. “A friend who would later go on to chop off both my legs and leave me for dead on the side of a volcano, but I guess I kind of had that coming,” Christensen joked. That’s a reference to his character’s heartbreaking fate at the hands of Kenobi in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith after what is inarguably the best lightsaber battle to date.

Ewan McGregor, in his portrayal of Obi-Wan, delivered a special touch that Christensen appreciated. He acknowledged Guinness’s work while adding his own layers of depth and feeling to the role. Christensen expressed eagerness to witness more of McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, stating “this man is pure Star Wars treasure.” In closing, Christensen thanked McGregor for being an exceptional Jedi Master, one better than anyone could have imagined.

You always had my back and I thank you for that. I’m just so happy to get to be here with you right now. It’s been an honor and a thrill to get to work with you, swing a lightsaber with you, and more than all of it, call you my friend. I love you, brother.

McGregor graciously reciprocated the affection and accolades in his acceptance speech. He also mentioned that he was touched to find his Walk of Fame star placed just next to Carrie Fisher’s, who iconically portrayed the Star Wars character, Princess Leia Organa.

McGregor shared with Variety that, despite spanning over 25 years, his enthusiasm for the character has never waned, and he’s eager to delve deeper into more tales. Ideally, these stories would be set in the time period between where the Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series concludes and the beginning of the original trilogy.
