Have you got the guts to watch all 10 Saw movies? They’re streaming for free from today in the UK

If you’re looking for something spooky to watch this Halloween week, ITV is hosting a marathon of scary movies.

ITVX, ITV’s streaming service, now has all ten Saw films available. Previously, the collection only included the first eight movies, up to and including Jigsaw.

The Saw franchise began in 2004, created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell. The first film famously introduced Tobin Bell as the terrifying John Kramer with a shocking twist, but the series has had its share of successes and failures since then.

The Saw film series often receives very different reactions from critics and audiences. Most of the movies – nine out of ten – have received a critic score of 50% or lower. However, the latest installment, Saw X, has been well-received by critics and is currently ‘Certified Fresh’ with an 81% rating.

Everyone generally agrees that 2010’s Saw: The Final Chapter was the weakest film in the Saw series. Critics gave it a very low rating of just 9%, and audiences weren’t much more impressed, scoring it 44%.

2008’s Saw V doesn’t fare much better, receiving a 13% rating from critics and a 52% rating from audiences.

With 2007’s Saw IV, opinions began to split between critics and audiences. While critics didn’t like the film – giving it a score of just 18% – fans seemed to enjoy the continuation of John Kramer’s story, awarding it a 62% rating.

Reviews for Saw III (2006) showed a big difference in opinion between critics (who gave it a 28% rating) and fans (who liked it much more, with a 71% rating). This pattern continued with Jigsaw (2017), where critics gave it a 32% rating while fans rated it 88%.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, Saw II ranks among the top five Saw movies with a 39% rating from critics. However, audiences weren’t as impressed with the sequel, giving it a score of 59%—lower than the original film.

Both Spiral: From the Book of Saw (also known as Saw 9) and Saw VI received a critics’ score of 39%. However, audiences had very different reactions: viewers enjoyed Spiral, giving it a 75% rating, while fans only gave Saw VI (released in 2009) a 53% score.

Topping the list is Saw X, the best-rated movie in the Saw franchise so far, with an 81% score from critics and an 88% audience score. This is the first time any Saw film has received such high marks from critics. Coming in second is the original Saw, which has a 50% critics score and an 84% fan rating.

After the successful debut of Saw at Sundance and its strong performance at the box office in 2004, James Wan and Leigh Whannell continued with the series as executive producers. Wan then handed over directing duties to others – including Darren Lynn Bousman, David Hackl, Kevin Greutert, and The Spierig Brothers – while Whannell wrote the screenplays for Saw II and Saw III.

Following the positive reception of Saw X, Lionsgate initially greenlit an eleventh Saw film, but later cancelled it in March.

All ten Saw movies are streaming on ITVX in the UK.
