Have an Absolutely Fabulous Christmas, darlings!

Great news for fans! All five seasons of Absolutely Fabulous are now available on BBC iPlayer, perfect for a festive binge. This hilarious show, which originally aired in the early nineties, follows the chaotic lives of two fashionable friends who enjoy a bit too much champagne. It quickly became a hit thanks to its witty writing and over-the-top style. As the iconic Eddie often declared while sporting a particularly bold outfit: “It’s Lacroix, darling. Lacroix!”

This show is full of clever and heartwarming moments. If you’re feeling sad, we recommend watching two episodes each night to lift your spirits.

A lot of the jokes are based around drinking.

What to Read Next

“What will you do with your life once you stop drinking?” asked Patsy Stone, the fashion editor, with her characteristic posh accent.

So, Jennifer, playing Edina, was totally deadpan when she said, “Water? It’s just something you mix with whiskey.” Apparently, the character was inspired by this PR guru named Lynne Franks, which is kinda cool.

“What are you drinking, Pats?” “This? Chanel No. 5.” was another one.

Priceless.

Julia Sawalha’s Saffy, Edina’s daughter, provided much of the show’s dry wit, often turning the parent-child dynamic on its head. She was known for her sarcastic comments – like telling her mother she looked ‘like a bloated citrus fruit’ after three hours of getting ready – and her sharp remarks about Patsy, whom she once described as ‘emaciated, like her brain.’

The show’s famously cheeky humor still holds up brilliantly. When asked recently about a potential return, Jennifer Saunders indicated it was unlikely, telling The Times that they’re both getting on in years – she’s 67, and the other performer is 79 – and a project like that requires a lot of stamina.

So go on, say cheers to a jolly good laugh!

If you enjoy this pair, be sure to watch Amandaland on December 23rd! It’s a special episode where a family comes together for Christmas at Aunt Joan’s house – Jennifer plays Aunt Joan, Lucy Punch (from Motherland) stars as Amanda, and Joanna plays Felicity.

Jennifer said it was a really well-made and funny show, praising both the characters and the acting. She enthusiastically stated, ‘I love it!’ and expressed her excitement for what’s to come.

Absolutely Fabulous is available to watch on BBC iPlayer now.

Amandaland is available to watch on BBC One on 23 December at 9.15pm.
