Tom Cruise, the famous actor, has often expressed his love for Britain, having lived there for many years. He’s known to enjoy British culture, from traditional pubs and fish and chips to spending time with Prince William.
Tom Cruise, known for his roles in Mission: Impossible and Top Gun, has unexpectedly decided to fly back to the United States, according to sources.
Staff at the London apartment building in Knightsbridge, where Tom Cruise, 63, has been living in a £35 million apartment, were reportedly shocked by his unexpected move. Witnesses saw staff carrying boxes of his belongings out of the penthouse, which has a view of Hyde Park.
However, the reason behind Tom Cruise leaving London is still unknown. A source close to him shared with the Mail on Sunday that he truly enjoyed living in London, particularly his morning runs in Hyde Park.
He enjoyed both simple walks around the neighborhood and more extravagant adventures, like taking a helicopter from Battersea Heliport to explore the British countryside. Staff at his building were surprised by how quickly it all happened.
It was quite unusual. The UK served as both where he worked and a place for personal enjoyment, filled with secret meetings, carefully planned travels, and late-night visits. England quickly became much more than just a location for making movies.
Tom Cruise has been filming movies in the UK for four decades, but he officially made his home here in 2021. Since then, he’s been seen enjoying British culture – from attending Wimbledon and Glastonbury to savoring classic dishes like chicken tikka masala and fish and chips.
Kenneth Branagh, 65, a co-star of Tom Cruise in the 2008 film Valkyrie, shared that Cruise is a big fan of British pubs and has even picked up some Cockney rhyming slang.
He quickly fit into British high society, playfully reprising his role as Maverick from Top Gun in a video shown at Windsor Castle during the concert for King Charles’s coronation. He also attended a charity fundraiser with Prince William to support the London Air Ambulance.
Tom Cruise joined David and Victoria Beckham, Gordon Ramsay, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at events celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. He was also honored by the British Film Institute last April, who gave him an honorary British citizenship.
He expressed his honor, stating he’s been filming in the UK for over 40 years and intends to continue. He’s also found romance while working in London, having been linked to several well-known actresses.
Hayley Atwell, his co-star in two films from the Mission: Impossible franchise.
He was recently linked to actress Ana de Armas. They were seen together at a dinner celebrating David Beckham’s 50th birthday at a restaurant in Notting Hill last year, and reports suggested he went to great lengths to accommodate her pets at his apartment. However, they reportedly split in October.
He shared in 2022 that he feels a strong connection to Britain. He enjoys spending time there, both for work and personal reasons, simply because he loves the country.
Britain offers a wonderful mix of tradition and modern style. It’s a real trendsetter, with many other countries looking to it for inspiration. Plus, the British countryside is simply beautiful.
Reports last year suggested he was considering buying property in the Cotswolds and establishing a more permanent presence there.
However, this only adds to the mystery surrounding his abrupt leaving, especially considering he’d even stapled blackout curtains to his apartment walls to help him sleep.
