Has Snowpiercer really just removed one of its villains as a threat?

As a gamer with over two decades of story-driven experiences under my belt, I must say that the demise of Milius in Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 7 was both unexpected and unsatisfying. While his character was undeniably ruthless and cold-hearted, I found myself longing for a more nuanced conclusion to his story.

In the seventh episode of Snowpiercer’s fourth season, we delved deeper into the background of Milius, answering many lingering questions about him. The narrative structure appears to have concluded his storyline entirely.

The show began by detailing the occurrences within the silo’s basement, where it was revealed that Milius harbored a longstanding desire for human experimentation. However, the actual admiral had consistently denied such requests. Additionally, Milius faced dismissal from his duties following information uncovered by the admiral.

It was revealed that Milius’s wife had betrayed him. After she helped release harmful substances into a sealed basement that resulted in permanent disfigurement for the soldiers within, Milius discovered her involvement. Tragically, she perished during this incident. Now, he keeps her photograph as a constant reminder of the treachery inflicted upon him.

Milius tries to get rid of Wilford again in Snowpiercer

It’s long been evident that Milius has shown little concern for people’s well-being. He continues to conduct numerous tests involving human subjects, and those he wishes to dispose of are often relegated to the basement.

Nonetheless, their predicament didn’t prevent Wilford and Layton. Instead, they managed to flee with Alex’s assistance, a move that spelled trouble for Milius. In response, he took decisive action, leading Wilford to another sealed section of the silo. This hidden part was perilously exposed to the freezing air outside, plunging temperatures dangerously low.

In essence, Milius’ actions were driven by an intention to eliminate Wilford. It seems evident that Milius harbors remorse over rescuing Wilford from the railroad tracks. Wilford possesses an uncanny ability to mobilize men which Milius lacks, thereby making him a formidable adversary. Yet, Wilford remains one step ahead of his opposition at all times.

Is Milius really dead in Snowpiercer?

During Milius’ prolonged speech, Wilford managed to withstand the chill. Notably, he had already undergone Dr. Headwood’s cold treatments, which equipped him to persevere in the frost. Consequently, he was able to reverse the situation against Milius.

In simpler terms, Wilford removed the oxygen line from Milius’s suit, leaving him exposed to the harsh cold. This situation was fatal, suggesting that Milius had perished due to freezing. It’s highly unlikely for anyone to recover once they’ve been frozen to death, unless specifically rescued. Moreover, since no one is aware that Milius is in the isolated sections of the silo, there’s no one who would even suspect or go looking for him.

Moreover, it seems that all those capable of rescuing Milius have departed from the silo, embarking on Snowpiercer en route to New Eden with the intention of retrieving Big Alice. However, there are exceptions: Josie, Layton, and Liana, who find themselves stranded in an abandoned vehicle.

It appears that Milius has indeed passed away. His character as the antagonist in the final season left me wanting more depth and understanding, which seems unlikely now since shows often don’t have much time for development when they wrap up swiftly.
