The Scream movies are a hugely popular horror series, and the seventh film came out last month. After over thirty years, the series is still going strong.
With Scream 7 earning over $97 million worldwide during its opening weekend, most people expect another Scream movie to be made.
Despite a record-breaking opening weekend, a new Scream movie hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. However, the series creator, Kevin Williamson, has hinted that another sequel is likely.

We have many ideas for potential sequels,” he said to Variety. “If this movie does well and people enjoy it, the studio is very interested in continuing the franchise.
As a fan, it’s awesome to hear that the people making these movies genuinely love it too! Kevin Williamson, who’s directing and writing Scream 7, said they’re just a blast and super fun to work on, which honestly makes me even more excited for the next one.

Marianne Maddalena, an executive producer, mentioned that filming for the next part of the series might start this year. However, we’ll need to wait for an official announcement to be sure.
While a new Scream movie isn’t confirmed, Courteney Cox seems open to returning as Gale Weathers. She told Variety that she believes everyone involved should want to do another film, calling it “fun and great.” However, she’s not sure if her schedule will allow it, but remains hopeful.
Neve Campbell returned as Sidney Prescott in Scream 7 after not appearing in Scream VI (2023). However, critics haven’t been kind to the new film, making it the lowest-rated installment in the Scream series.

Okay, so I just checked Rotten Tomatoes, and the new horror movie isn’t doing so hot. It’s sitting at 32% based on 148 reviews. That’s actually lower than Scream 3 got back in 2000 – it was at 45%. And that’s kinda noteworthy because Scream 3 was the only other movie in the series that didn’t get a ‘Fresh’ rating, so this one’s in pretty rare company when it comes to negative reviews.
Digital Spy gave the film a two-star rating, describing it as uninspired and repetitive. We noted that while the ending might be enjoyable, the weak central mystery would likely discourage viewers from wanting to see it again.
Scream 7 is in cinemas now.
