Has Buddy turned into an angry elf? Will Ferrell spotted with scowl, cigarette and beer at Kings game
As a longtime fan of Will Ferrell and his iconic character Buddy the Elf from the beloved movie “Elf”, I must admit that seeing him at the Crypto.com Arena, looking less than jolly, was a bit disconcerting. The Buddy we knew and loved from 2003 was always bursting with cheerfulness and had an unquenchable thirst for syrup and spaghetti – not to mention his insatiable appetite for Christmas!
However, it appears that Buddy has evolved over the past two decades, adapting to the realities of adult life. It’s not surprising to see him struggling with the pressures of modern society, just like many of us do from time to time. Maybe he’s going through a tough holiday season this year, or perhaps he’s just had a bad day at the North Pole.
But let’s not forget that Buddy is still Buddy – he might be a little more rough around the edges these days, but deep down, I believe he’s still that same warm-hearted, sugar-loving elf we all know and love. After all, even elves need a break from the festivities every now and then! And who knows? Maybe Buddy will find his way back to the North Pole for some good old-fashioned Christmas cheer before long.
On a lighter note, I can’t help but wonder if Buddy’s new vices – the unlit cigarette and beer – are just part of his attempt to fit in with the cool kids at the hockey rink. After all, we all know that Santa doesn’t smoke or drink, but Buddy is no ordinary elf! Perhaps he’s just finding new ways to spread holiday cheer – one disheveled, disgruntled fan at a time.

In a nod to his iconic role in the 2003 movie “Elf,” comedian Will Ferrell donned the distinctive pointed hat and green coat associated with that character, while attending the match between the Los Angeles Kings and the Philadelphia Flyers.
On platform X, the Kings announced that “Buddy the Elf Has Arrived at #Hockeywood”! They shared a 25-second video featuring Will Ferrell, dressed as Buddy, seated by the rinkside next to his wife, Viveca Paulin, and their son, Axel.
However, there appears to be an unusual feel about the 2024 edition of Buddy. To be specific, several aspects seem amiss, beginning with the appearance of his facial expression.

On Saturday, during USC’s Family Weekend, actor Will Ferrell paid a visit to the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity, as his son attends the university as a sophomore.
Throughout that time, he maintained a constant frown on his face. However, unlike many others who have an off-day every now and then, the perpetually cheerful Buddy from 21 years ago was far from ordinary in this aspect.
“I just like to smile,” he says in the movie. “Smiling’s my favorite.”
× In the movie, Buddy is a grown man who was brought up by elves in the North Pole but later moved to New York to find his biological father. Initially, Buddy struggled to fit into a rather grumpy and jaded world, but over the past twenty years, he seems to have adapted quite well.
In the movie, Buddy’s weaknesses were mainly centered around sugar-laden substances. However, it seems he has now shifted towards more serious habits. At the Kings game, Buddy was spotted looking rather untidy, with an unlit cigarette in his mouth and what seemed to be a beer in hand.
