Has Alex fallen under Wilford's spell in Snowpiercer?

As a gamer with a penchant for sci-fi series, I’ve seen my fair share of twists and turns, but none quite like the enigmatic character of Alex in Snowpiercer. With a background rooted in science, she’s not just another passenger on this icy train; she’s an explorer, a seeker of truth, and a beacon of hope for humanity.

In Snowpiercer’s Season 4, Episode 5, Alex opted against joining the mass exodus on Big Alice. Contrary to popular belief, she isn’t under Wilford’s control anymore.

It’s clear that Alex regards Wilford as a savior. Not only did he ensure she boarded Big Alice when it set sail, but he also rescued her from the cart he was disconnecting during the cull. She felt indebted to him and let him influence her thoughts, even going against her own mother.

Despite being held back initially, Alex eventually managed to break free from the situation. Upon witnessing the true nature of his actions towards people, she realized the urgent need to protect humanity. This resolution led her to collaborate with Melanie and Layton, ultimately deciding to depart with Layton in order to reach Big Alice.

Alex is a scientific person in Snowpiercer

It might appear as if Alex has been swayed by Wilford’s appeal once more, but it’s rather improbable. Earlier this season, Alex made clear that she didn’t hold the emotional bond toward the bird that many presumed she did. To Alex, Wilford was not a pet but a collaborator, assisting her in data collection for her research.

Alex serves as a scientist, with a deep-seated desire to unravel the mysteries surrounding New Eden and secure its survival. Instead, she chose to embark on a mission to save Liana, not out of personal attachment but for research purposes – to gather valuable data.

It’s clear that she can gain more by being in the silo than she can on Big Alice, or even on Snowpiercer. While in the silo, there’s a chance that she can find her mother and work with her. Nima clearly knows something, so there’s a chance Alex can work with him. He even brought up the nosebleeds, which she’s only mentioned to Javi before. Those nosebleeds mean something, and she needs to understand them. Of course she’s going to want to stick around the person who may be able to give her answers.

Keeping Alex at the silo fits well with the overall narrative. If a need for an engineer arises, they already have one in Alex. With the loss of Ben and Miles, and Melanie engaged in her research elsewhere, having Alex around seems practical.
