Harry Styles lands Number 1 with new single while former bandmate Louis Tomlinson tops the album charts in a double whammy for One Direction fans – 15 years after the boyband’s first hit

Fans of One Direction received a double treat on Friday: Harry Styles reached the top of the UK Singles chart, while Louis Tomlinson’s album hit Number One on the Album chart. This success comes 15 years after One Direction’s debut single, “What Makes You Beautiful,” first topped the charts.

Harry’s latest single, ‘Aperture,’ from his forthcoming album ‘Kiss All The Time, Disco, Occasionally,’ has become his third song to reach number one on the UK charts. The singer is 31 years old.

Louis’ latest album, ‘How Did I Get Here?’, has reached Number One, continuing a streak of chart-topping success for all of his solo releases.

Adding to his recent success, Harry Styles’ hit song “As It Was” unexpectedly climbed back into the Top 40 charts, reaching Number 28 – its first appearance there since 2024.

Harry happily showed off his award, and his fans are eagerly awaiting his album, which comes out on March 6th.

Martin Talbot, CEO of Official Charts, noted that this year marks the 15th anniversary of One Direction’s first number one single, ‘What Makes You Beautiful’.

Following Robbie Williams’ success last week, which showed how popular former boy band members can still be, it’s great to see Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson at the top of the Official Charts again this week.

This just reinforces how popular this 21st-century boy band still is – and likely always will be.

This follows a comment from Zayn Malik, another member of One Direction, who seemingly criticized Harry over ‘ticket prices.’ This came after fans accused Harry of being greedy and disconnected from their reality.

Harry Styles released tickets for his upcoming seven-city concert series, ‘Together, Together,’ earlier this week, and many fans were upset by how expensive they were.

Zayn, who used to be in One Direction with Harry Styles, has criticized the price of tickets for Harry’s tour. They range from about $60 to a surprisingly high $1,000 for shows in London.

While performing at Dolby Live in Las Vegas on Wednesday, the singer of ‘Pillowtalk’ shared a comment with the audience between songs.

Wearing a stylish white blazer, Zayn playfully commented, ‘I hope everyone could actually afford the tickets… just a thought!’

Swiftly moving on, he added: ‘Anyway, who wants to hear another song.’

Zayn rose to fame in 2010 as part of the boy band One Direction, alongside Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam Payne. Now, for his current residency, he’s been charging between $83 and $479 per ticket, despite the venue only holding 5,200 people.

Okay, so I’ve been looking at tickets for Harry’s London shows, and honestly, it’s a bit wild! The cheapest seats are around £44, which isn’t too bad, but they go all the way up to £466! If you want to be right down the front and stand, you’re looking at £144 to £279. But the VIP packages? Oh my gosh, they start at £468 and go up to a whopping £725! It’s a lot, but I need to be there, so… worth it, right?

People waiting online for Harry Styles tickets at Madison Square Garden were informed that prices ranged from $50 to $1,182.40, with all fees included.

In New York, it’s also thought the most expensive VIP package is currently priced at $1,667.

In Amsterdam, tickets cost anywhere from €74.05 (or $87.79) to €828.62 (which is $982.38 in USD).

Compared to those prices, tickets for Harry’s 2022 shows at Madison Square Garden cost between $39.50 and $199.50. His sold-out concerts at Wembley Stadium in London that same year were even more affordable, starting at just £45 and reaching a maximum of £99.

Harry’s fans are very upset about the high costs, with many criticizing him for potentially pricing out younger fans who want to listen to his music.

People on X shared their frustration with the recent ticket sale, with one user saying it was the worst they’d ever experienced. They were shocked that tickets sold out in just 30 minutes, even after waiting for over 20,000 places in the virtual queue, believing they had a good chance of getting tickets to see Harry.

Hi Harry Styles, as a longtime fan – I’ve followed you for almost 14 years and been to all your tours – I’m really disappointed with the pricing and availability of tickets for the residency shows. It feels like you and your team have lost sight of making music accessible to everyone, and I wish you’d remember your roots.

Just a reminder to artists: you have the power to control ticket prices, allow fans to resell tickets at face value, and opt out of dynamic (platinum) pricing. Harry Styles, your pricing practices are unacceptable.
