Tom Felton, known for playing Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, is clarifying which Hogwarts House he actually belongs to.
Even after the Harry Potter books and movies finished, fans still strongly identify with the Hogwarts Houses, often associating actors with the Houses their characters belonged to. Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, is particularly well-known as a representative of Slytherin and often acknowledges this connection with fans and in public.
Tom Felton recently shared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he’s still a proud member of Slytherin House. He happily confirmed his allegiance, which will likely please fans who have always identified him with the house from the Harry Potter series.
Draco Malfoy was placed in Slytherin, a House famous for ambitious and resourceful, though sometimes proud, wizards. Interestingly, the actor who played Harry Potter actually hoped to be sorted into a different House. During his Sorting Ceremony scene, he asked the Sorting Hat to keep him out of Slytherin, and ultimately ended up in Gryffindor, as fans know.
During an interview, Tom Felton discussed his experiences taking the House quiz. He admitted to initially trying to game the system and answer in a way that would definitely place him in Slytherin, but he quickly learned “you can’t fool the Sorting Hat.” The quiz actually sorted him into Gryffindor in 2021. Previously, a year before, he’d received a Hufflepuff result, which he jokingly lamented on Instagram, calling it “a sad day… on so many levels.”
Draco Malfoy, a classic Slytherin character in the Harry Potter series, has several memorable lines. One of them hilariously highlights how much students value their Hogwarts House. He famously said, “Imagine being in Hufflepuff. I think I’d leave, wouldn’t you?” As actor Tom Felton explained, this quote shows just how “very proud” students are of being sorted into “their chosen House.”
Tom Felton shared that all three of his older brothers were sorted into Hufflepuff when they took the quiz. His mother was placed in Gryffindor, and his father, like Draco Malfoy’s father in the Harry Potter stories, is a Slytherin. This confirmed what fans already suspected: the real-life Tom Felton is also a proud Slytherin.
Tom Felton has not only clarified his allegiance to Slytherin, but he’s also rejoined the world of Harry Potter with his first Broadway role as Draco in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. He shared in a recent interview that after performances, he playfully asks fans which Hogwarts house they belong to. If they say anything other than Slytherin, he jokingly “steals their playbill and runs off with it.”
Even though it first came out over twenty years ago, Harry Potter is still incredibly popular, and a recent interview with Tom Felton explains why the Hogwarts Houses continue to resonate with so many people. The interview showed that being sorted into a Hogwarts House has become a major trend, with fans lining up to find out their own House and get excited about where their favorite actors belong.
