Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe & JK Rowling Give Their Approval to Upcoming HBO Reboot

Fans have had a fantastic month, and things are still looking up! Following a string of exciting new releases, everyone’s focus remains on the highly anticipated HBO reboot.

Filming for the series began this summer, and it’s expected to be released on the streaming service in 2027. With a completely new cast, the new lead actor, Dominic McLaughlin, has received a vote of confidence from Daniel Radcliffe, who previously played the iconic role. Additionally, J.K. Rowling recently visited the set to offer her approval of the new series.

I’m hearing that J.K. Rowling actually visited the set of the new series on November 19th! Apparently, she was checking in on how the adaptation is coming along. Filming’s been happening at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, and they’ve also been shooting on location all over the UK.

Sources described Rowling’s visit as a major event, comparing it to a royal visit, with key members of the show’s team making time to greet her. HBO hasn’t officially confirmed the visit, but it was widely anticipated.

J.K. Rowling is actively involved in the new Harry Potter series for HBO, serving as an executive producer. She helped choose the actors and even contributed to the writing process. Earlier this summer, Rowling shared her excitement about the show, saying she read the first two episodes and found them “SO, SO, SO GOOD!” She also mentioned working closely with the show’s writers.

Following the announcement that McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout would star as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley respectively, J.K. Rowling expressed her approval. She simply stated, “They’re all fantastic. I’m thrilled with the choices.”

Daniel Radcliffe Reached Out to His Harry Potter Replacement

Daniel Radcliffe recently told Good Morning America that he contacted the new Harry Potter actor and sent him a letter. While he doesn’t think it’s necessary for every actor cast as Harry to reach out to him, he mentioned knowing some people involved in the upcoming production. He specifically shared that he wrote to Dominic Cooper and received a kind response.

The actor previously said he wants the new cast to make the famous characters their own, and he doesn’t want to hang around and overshadow them. He explained he doesn’t want to be a constant presence in their careers.

He shared that in a letter to the new actor, he wished them well, saying he hoped their experience would be even more enjoyable than his own – and he’d really enjoyed it himself!

You know, when I see pictures of Daniel and the other young actors on set, it just makes me want to give them all a big hug. It’s wild to think about how young we all were when we were filming, and honestly, it’s really sweet. I really hope they’re all having an amazing experience.

The Harry Potter show premieres on HBO Max in 2027.
