Harry Potter’s Cursed Child Movie Gets Update From Tom Felton

HBO recently released the trailer for its new series. Meanwhile, Tom Felton is reprising his famous role as Draco Malfoy on Broadway in the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The new stage play is a continuation of the story from the original eight Harry Potter novels, written by Jack Thorne with J.K. Rowling’s blessing. It takes place 19 years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, immediately following the epilogue. Tom Felton discussed the potential for a film adaptation of the play during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Isn’t on the Way

Despite the fact that many fans don’t view The Cursed Child as official story material, discussions about continuing the series have been happening for quite some time. However, the actors who originally played the main characters aren’t immediately eager to reprise their roles. This came up during a recent interview.

Felton believes these are two distinct entities, almost like ‘two separate dragons,’ particularly when considering the newer addition, he clarified.

The popular Harry Potter actor expressed their excitement about the series, explaining that it’s embracing the wealth of source material. They noted that a lot of content had to be left out of the first two movies simply because a five-hour film would be too long for younger audiences.

He mentioned the new adaptation has a lot of details and characters he’s excited to see included. Regarding The Cursed Child, Felton expressed pride in the play’s success in bringing audiences to theaters globally, noting that it’s currently being performed in various countries.

Tom Felton Addresses His Favorite Harry Potter Movie

Tom Felton is incredibly popular with Harry Potter fans, and a big part of that is how openly he expresses his appreciation for the series. He shared that while initially sorted into Gryffindor by the Sorting Hat, he actually requested – and passed – a second test to be placed in his now-iconic Slytherin House.

When asked which Harry Potter movie was his favorite, Tom Felton admitted he’s only seen the films once. He clarified that it wasn’t because he disliked them – he’s a big fan of the books – but because he was required to attend the premieres.

Tom Felton remembered that during readings of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, two of his brothers and even his dad sometimes fell asleep. He said it was a bit awkward to watch himself in the films and suspects Daniel Radcliffe probably avoided doing so as well.

I’m holding onto those items for the future – perhaps if I have children or when I’m older. Right now, I’m still figuring out how I want to portray Draco, so I don’t have time to revisit things from the past, Felton explained.

I remember hearing him talk about the second movie, Chamber of Secrets, and he said it was really enjoyable because of the huge basilisk and how fantastic Alan Rickman was. Plus, we actors felt like we understood our characters much better by then. He also mentioned that The Half-Blood Prince was the most satisfying film for him personally, as an actor.
